Looking for a reliable Toyota 4Runner for sale under $20,000.

I am so excited because I finally saved up enough to get my dream car for camping trips this summer! I have my heart set on a Toyota 4Runner because they look so cool and sturdy but I am a total newbie and honestly have no idea what to look for.

My budget is $20,000 tops since I am a student here in Colorado. I saw some online for that price but they have like 180k miles which sounds like a lot to me? Sorry if this is a silly question but is that too many miles for a Toyota? I really dont want to get stuck in the mountains with a broken engine... help?

Ive been a Toyota guy for like fifteen years now and I finally sold my 04 Tacoma because I needed more room for the kids and the dog but man I did not expect the market for 4Runners to be this insane right now. I know my way around a wrench and Ive done my own suspension swaps and timing belts on the old 22RE engines so I'm not afraid of a little high mileage but looking for something under $20k in the Pacific Northwest is proving to be a total nightmare. Everything I find is either a rusted out frame that looks like it spent its life in the ocean or someone wants $25k for a 2010 with 280k miles on it and - no lowballers I know what I have - lol.

I'm getting really hyped about getting back on the trails this summer and I have a trip planned for July to the Cascades so the clock is ticking a bit and I really want to have the rig built out by then. I found this one listing for a 2012 Trail Edition about three hours away and it looks super clean in the photos and the price is right at $18,500 which is perfect for my budget. The guy says the frame is solid and it has the KDSS system which I know can be a pain if it leaks but he says it's dry.

The weird thing is he mentioned the 4WD actuator is stuck and only works if you tap it with a hammer while someone else shifts it inside? Ive dealt with the older manual transfer cases but I haven't messed with the electronic ones much on the early 5th gens. Is this actually just a simple solenoid issue or am I looking at pulling the whole transfer case apart just to get it into 4Lo? Also does anyone know if $20k is even realistic for a reliable 5th gen anymore or should I just suck it up and look for a super clean V8 4th gen instead even with the gas prices being what they are...

I have been flipping Toyotas for years as a hobby but the market right now is just insane. I usually scout the local lots or Craigslist but people are asking like 8k for a 2005 with a busted CV joint its crazy. I need a reliable daily for a new commute out in the Chicago suburbs and my budget is hard capped at $5000 cash. I dont mind doing a bit of wrenching if the frame is solid and the engines good.

Been scouring FB marketplace and craigslist for like three weeks now looking for a decent used Camry and honestly its a nightmare out here. My old 2005 Corolla finally gave up the ghost—transmission is slipping bad—so I need a replacement like yesterday. I’m based around the north side of the city and my budget is hard capped at $18k because I really dont want another car payment right now.

I’ve basically narrowed it down to two specific ones I found nearby but I’m totally stuck on which way to go:

The 2016 LE: It has 78,000 miles, private seller, super clean. Asking $15,200.

The 2018 SE: Newer body style, 112,000 miles, dealership price is $17,500.

My logic was originally to just get the lowest mileage I could find so it lasts me another decade but man that 2016 interior feels so dated. It doesn't even have carplay or anything and the seats feel kinda mushy. Then I saw that 2018 at a lot about 20 minutes away. It looks so much better and it’s got all the safety tech like the pre-collision stuff which would be great for my 45-minute commute on the interstate every morning.

Problem is the mileage. It feels risky to pay more for a car with way more miles just because it looks cooler and has a better screen. I keep going back and forth on if the 2018 is worth the extra cash or if I'm just being shallow about the tech features. Is 112k miles on a 2018 Camry actually a lot or am I just overthinking the Toyota reliability thing? I also checked out a 2015 XLE nearby but it had a weird smoke smell so that's definitely out.

If anyone has seen any other listings around town or knows a guy selling one let me know. I really need to pull the trigger by next weekend so I can stop borrowing my brothers truck and actually get to work on time...

Look Ive bought and sold at least five Camrys over the last decade so I know my way around the 2AR-FE engine and what to look for during a PPI but the market in Phoenix right now is absolutely trashed. Every private seller on Craigslist is dodging questions about the title or asking way over KBB. I need a reliable daily by Friday because my old commuter is dead in the driveway and I cant keep Ubering to work every morning.

im seriously so done with my current car it just died on me for the third time this month and i cannot keep dumping money into this total money pit. i have to get to work in scottsdale every day and the bus is taking me like two hours each way its exhausting. im desperate for an older toyota corolla literally any year as long as it runs and is under 5000 dollars but everywhere i look online people are asking for crazy prices for cars with like 300k miles. i need something by monday or im gonna lose my mind. does anyone know a local dealer or someone selling one for a fair price that isnt a scam?

Where on earth are people actually finding RAV4 Hybrids in stock right now without a year-long waitlist? Ive bought three Toyotas from my local dealer over the years so I know how the allocation system works but this is just insane lately. I need a new daily for my commute up in Seattle since my old 08 Camry is basically dead and I really want an XLE Premium. My budget is 40-42k max but every lot within 200 miles is totally empty or they want these massive 5k markups which I just wont do. I start a new job in three weeks and really need a car by then. Are there any high-volume dealers on the west coast that actually have units or am I just stuck?

been searching all over the Beaverton area for a used Camry since my old car died last week and im honestly stuck between a few choices i found on craigslist and some local lots. i have about $17k saved up and i really need this to be a solid commuter for my 45 min drive to work every day.

The two im looking at are:

a 2016 Camry LE with 92k miles for $15,500

a 2014 XLE with 77k miles for $16,200

im kinda leaning toward the XLE because of the leather and the lower mileage but my dad says i should go for the 2016 because its newer and might have better tech or safety stuff but it feels so basic inside compared to the older one. honestly i just need something that wont leave me stranded on the highway lol. i also saw a 2015 SE with 110k miles for way cheaper like $13k but that feels like too many miles right?

budget: $18,000 max
use: daily long distance commute
timeline: need to buy by friday

does anyone know if these prices are decent for the portland area right now or which one of these would be the smartest move for high mileage driving...

Honestly im just so fed up with my old Chevy it literally died on the highway again today and im officially done fixing it. I need a Toyota RAV4 like right now because I cant keep missing shifts at work. Every dealership I go to is trying to scam me with these crazy markups or they have nothing in stock. I have about $22,000 cash and I need to find something reliable by Friday at the latest.

Does anyone know where I can actually find a decent deal on a used RAV4 or maybe a private seller who isnt insane? Im mostly looking in the Phoenix area but I'll drive a bit if I have to. Where should I even be looking at this point...
