I just picked up an RS6 in that stunning matte finish, but I'm terrified of ruining the look with the wrong soap. I know regular waxes are a huge no-go. Does anyone have a go-to kit that won't leave streaks or unwanted shine? I'm specifically looking for something that handles road grime well without polishing the paint. Any brands you swear by?

Not to disagree, but I'd actually suggest a different approach before dropping big money on a boutique kit. Since it's a new RS6, safety is everything!! I honestly think you're better off skipping the kits and just grabbing some basics from Adams. Their stuff is seriously amazing for matte finishes because it's so gentle.

* Stick with a dedicated matte wash from them
* Use their matte detailer for fingerprints

Definately talk to your dealer first tho just to be safe!

Honestly, matte paint is such a headache for the wallet lol. Unfortunately, I've had issues with those pricey boutique brands not being any better than the standard stuff. For your RS6, I'd suggest checking out Dr. Beasley's Matte Paint Prescription. It's kinda the industry standard but is seriously expensive.

If you wanna save some cash tho, Gyeon Q2M Bathe 400ml is a total win. It's super slick, pH-neutral, and won't add any unwanted shine. Just avoid those cheap "wash and wax" soaps at all costs!! peace

Quick question - is your RS6 the factory matte effect or did you go with a stealth PPF wrap over gloss? It actually makes a huge difference in which chemicals are safest to use long-term! I've been detailing matte Audis for ages and honestly, you can save a ton of money by skipping the overpriced "boutique" kits and going for Dr. Beasley's Matte Body Wash 12 oz instead of a full bundle. It's super concentrated so it lasts forever. Also, for getting rid of that nasty road grime without polishing the finish, I'd compare it to Swissvax Car Bath Opaque 250ml—the Swissvax is literally amazing but pricey, whereas the Dr. Beasley's is way more budget-friendly and gives you that same factory-fresh flat look. Curious to hear what your surface situation is tho!!

Would love to know this too

Dude, congrats on the RS6! That paint is literally insane, but I totally get the stress cuz matte is a whole different beast. From my experience with Audi's factory matte finishes, you gotta be sooo careful about adding any gloss by mistake. Basically, you need a kit that's specifically pH-neutral and has zero waxes or silicones.

Here's what I recommend:

* Just go with [[Dr. Beasley's]] for the full setup. Honestly, they're like the gold standard for matte care and I've used their stuff for years without any issues.
* Get a dedicated matte soap from [[Chemical Guys]]. It's super decent at breaking down road grime without polishing the surface, right?
* Definitely use a matte-specific sealant from [[Swissvax]] if you want that extra protection. It keeps the look flat but protects against bird droppings and stuff.

I mean, as long as you avoid the 'gloss enhancer' stuff, you'll be fine. Just use the two-bucket method and you're golden. gl! 👍

Congrats on the RS6, thats a hell of a car to keep clean! I have been testing matte maintenance products for a long time and the biggest thing people overlook is the decontamination stage. Since you cant clay bar matte paint without essentially polishing it, you gotta rely 100 percent on chemical performance to get that road grime off safely. If you want to see actual performance benchmarks, I highly suggest checking out some of the deep-dive testing over at Obsessed Garage or the Detailing World forums. They do actual stress tests on how these chemicals react with factory matte clears. Here are a few items I swear by for real-world performance:

  • Koch-Chemie Gentle Snow Foam
  • This is basically the industry standard for a pure, pH-neutral pre-wash that wont leave any residue or gloss enhancers.
  • Gtechniq W6 Iron and General Fallout Remover
  • You are gonna have a lot of brake dust with those RS brakes, and this is the safest way to melt it off without touching the paint.
  • CARPRO Descale
  • If you ever deal with light water spotting, this is a lifesaver because you cant just polish those spots out like you would on a gloss car. Just remember to use the two-bucket method and maybe even look into a high-quality electric pressure washer setup to minimize how much you actually have to touch the surface. Good luck with the new ride!

Re: "Dude, congrats on the RS6! That paint is..." - jumping in here cuz I still remember the first time I saw a matte Audi finish get ruined by a "safe" soap that actually had gloss enhancers hiding in it. It turned the door panel into this weird, splotchy mess that looked greasy under gas station lights. Honestly terrifying. Everyone here is right about the no-wax rule and skipping clay bars. I've personally tried a few others that haven't been mentioned yet:

  • Nanolex Matte Shampoo 500ml: I've used this on a buddies car for a while. It's super gentle and doesn't leave anything behind, but honestly it struggles a bit with heavy bird droppings unless you soak them first.
  • Stjarnagloss Matta Matte Shampoo 500ml: This stuff is surprisingly good. It's really slick, which is huge for preventing those tiny micro-scratches that you can never buff out of matte. Just be super careful with compatibility. Audi clear coats are tough but matte is unforgiving... if you mess up the texture with the wrong chemical, you're looking at a full respray since you can't just polish it out. Stick to these matte-specific brands and dont take any shortcuts tho.

To add to the point above: everyone is highlighting the no-wax rule for a reason, but the real trick is maximizing chemical cleaning power since you cant use abrasives like clay bars. Matte is porous and loves to trap road film and minerals. If you want performance over brand hype, these are the heavy hitters:

  • Bilt Hamber Auto Foam 5L is arguably the best pre-wash for actually moving dirt before you even touch the car. It is safe and does way more than just look cool in a foam cannon.
  • CarPro IronX LS 500ml is vital. Since you cant use a clay bar to get fallout off the RS6, you need this to dissolve iron particles chemically.
  • Labocosmetica #Satino Matte Shampoo 500ml is a killer wash that specifically helps with mineral deposits and lime scale, which are what usually kill the matte look over time. Dont bother with those fancy all-in-one kits. They usually give you tiny bottles and charge a premium for the convenience. Just buy these separate. Also, seriously look into getting a dedicated car dryer... touching matte paint as little as possible is the best way to prevent it from getting shiny over the years. tldr; focus on the pre-wash and chemical decontamination stages.

Nice, didn't know that
