Hey everyone, looking for a good dash cam for my Audi Q5. It's a 2019 model. Any recommendations for a reliable one that's easy to install? What are your top picks?
ngl i have this exact same problem with my q5. been dealing with it for like two months now and honestly still havent found anything that actually ticks all the boxes for a solid, cost-effective setup.
Regarding what #11 said about the apps being garbage and the wiring being a massive pain... honestly you are spot on. Most of these proprietary interfaces feel like they were designed in 2005. I spent half a day trying to hardwire a basic setup and nearly fried a control module because the diagrams I found online were totally wrong for my trim level. Its like that time I tried to swap out the cabin air filter and somehow ended up finding a stash of old French fries from the previous owner tucked under the glove box. I got so distracted cleaning the carpet that I forgot to actually buy the new filter and ended up driving three towns over to this specific car wash that has the industrial vacuums. They have this amazing taco truck right next to it, seriously the best carnitas I have ever had. I ended up eating three tacos and completely forgot why I even went there in the first place. Anyway lol sorry kinda went off topic there.
> Skip the pro install! ... Save yourself $150+. Just saw this and totally agree, doing the install yourself is the way to go. Im really satisfied with the results from doing it myself. Performance is the only thing that matters at the end of the day... you really want to focus on high bitrate recording so the image stays sharp when youre moving fast. Honestly, its a pretty easy DIY if you take your time with the trim. If you have any trouble finding a good fuse for the constant power let me know!

I use a BlackVue DR750S. Paid $400. Works great, but professional install is safer, IMO.
Hey! Instead of a traditional dashcam, have you considered tapping into the Q5's existing sensors? Some aftermarket modules, like those from BlackVue, can record video using the car's cameras (if equipped). Installation's a bit more involved, but video quality is often superior. Something to consider if you're tech-inclined!
Skip the fancy ones. Vantrue N2 Pro, under $200, and a pro install. Peace of mind is priceless.
Been installing cams for years. Skip the pro install! Vantrue N4 is great, but run the rear cable yourself – plenty of YouTube tutorials. Save yourself $150+.
Been running a Thinkware F200 Pro for 3 years. Solid, reliable, no frills.
