Looking for a dash cam for my A6. Any suggestions for a 2016 model? What's a good reliable brand?

stumbled upon this and honestly i feel your pain. I have had my A6 for five years and finding a reliable setup has been such a nightmare... i have gone through three different units that just didnt live up to the hype or stopped working right after the warranty ended. It is so disappointing when you invest in a nice car and the tech just lets you down. If you want my take after all the issues I have had:

  • just get any BlackVue Dash Cam and call it a day
  • stay away from the generic stuff you find on sale, it is never worth the stress
  • make sure whatever you get has a good sensor from a reputable brand I really wish i had just spent the extra money upfront instead of dealing with all the failures i had. It is just one thing after another with these electronics. If you have more questions about which ones to avoid just ask, i am happy to share more of my bad experiences... so frustrated with the whole thing tbh.

Hey! For my '17 A6, I initially tried a Rexing dash cam. Unfortunately, I had issues with the video quality – not as good as expected for the price. I'd suggest reading lots of reviews before buying *any* cam. Maybe consider getting it professionally installed for optimal placement and wiring? Good luck!

Thinkware's F770 offers buffered parking mode, crucial for Audi's complex electronics. Had issues with Garmin's interference.

Skip the fancy ones. Vantrue N2 Pro is reliable and under $200. Focus on video quality, not gimmicks.

Thinkware's good for heat resistance (critical in a black car!). Prioritize capacitor-based models for safety.

Thinkware's good, but consider DIY install. A hardwire kit's ~$20, saves a pro's $100+ fee. YouTube's your friend! Plenty of A6 installs to copy.

Looking at reliability data, Thinkware has consistently good ratings. Garmin is a decent option too, but Thinkware usually wins in long-term studies. Depends on your needs, but expect to pay around $250 for a good one.
