Which dash cam works best with Audi EV electrical systems?

I’m looking for a dash cam for my Q4 e-tron but I’m worried about the 12V battery drain and interfering with the car’s sensitive electronics. Has anyone successfully hardwired a BlackVue or Vantrue without getting 'low battery' warnings or system errors? Which specific model or parking mode setup works best with the Audi EV architecture?

TL;DR: Hardwiring directly to the fuse box caused constant low voltage errors for me, so I had to change my approach.

I went through this last year with my EV. Honestly, I tried a simple hardwire kit first cuz it was cheaper, but the car's 12V system is sooo sensitive. I kept getting those annoying warnings every morning. Eventually, I switched to a dedicated battery pack setup to save my main battery. It cost more upfront, but it's way more reliable than just tapping into the car's fuses directly tho.

yo! i totally get the 12V anxiety with the Q4, its a real thing lol. i would suggest looking into a dedicated dash cam battery pack rather than just hardwiring it directly. honestly, i'm still kinda new to this but i went with a BlackVue setup and added their external battery. it basically charges while ur driving and then runs the cam when parked, so it literally never touches the car's 12V system. i'm reallyyy satisfied with it, no errors at all!!

but before i get into more specs, what's your budget like for this? and are you looking for just a front cam or a front and rear setup?? i ask cuz the power draw is super different and it might change which battery size you need. anyway, i'm happy to help more once i know that! cheers

sooo i've been doing a deep dive into this cuz the Q4's 12V architecture is legit sensitive. honestly, you really gotta look at how these units manage voltage or you'll get those annoying dashboard errors. Check out the DashCamTalk forums for their EV-specific threads, it's a goldmine.

I've compared the big two and here's what I found:

1. BlackVue DR970X-2CH Plus 4K Dash Cam vs Vantrue N4 Pro 3 Channel 4K Dash Cam.
2. The BlackVue has a built-in voltage monitor that's way more precise, which is great for Audi's system. But honestly, even then, the constant drain can trip the car's 'deep sleep' mode.
3. The Vantrue is amazing for video quality, but it's a bit of a power hog compared to the BlackVue.

Pro tip: Probs best to just pair whatever you get with a BlackVue Power Magic Ultra Battery B-130X. It basically isolates the cam from the 12V system entirely once the car is off. peace
