I’m looking to upgrade my E90’s interior with a wireless charging solution, but I’m struggling to find something that doesn't look like a cluttered mess of wires. Since these older 3 Series models don't have built-in pads, I've been looking at options that replace the front ashtray or fit snugly in the center console. I’m specifically worried about charging speeds and whether these aftermarket pads will overheat my phone during long drives using GPS. Does anyone have experience with the drop-in integrated units versus just using a high-quality magnetic mount? I'd prefer something that looks OEM and fits a larger iPhone. What are the most reliable brands you’ve tried for this specific setup?

Honestly, wireless charging in an E90 is kinda tricky because of the heat. I tried those drop-in units and was disappointed... they're basically ovens for your phone during long GPS trips. If you're on a budget, I'd skip the integrated trays and grab a Scosche MagicMount Pro Charge5. It's not totally "OEM look," but it's cheap, keeps the phone cool via airflow, and actually charges at decent speeds without killing your battery life. Much better value than the $150+ custom pieces tbh.

Honestly, the best move for an E90 is the Induktiv E9X Wireless Device Charging Tray. I've had it for a year and I'm super happy with the OEM look. It basically replaces the sunglass tray or ashtray perfectly. For like $160, it handles my iPhone 15 Pro Max without overheating issues on long trips. Much better than a messy cable setup imo!! 👍
