Looking for a dash cam for my X3. Any recommendations for my budget of around $300?
^ This. Also, while the VIOFO is a solid pick, you might want to consider something like the Fitcamx Dash Cam for BMW X3 G01 if you hate having cables everywhere. It basically swaps out the plastic trim behind your mirror so it looks totally stock. Just be careful when popping those covers off because the BMW plastic clips are notoriously brittle. A few quick tips for the install:
Works great for me
@Reply #6 - good point! haha, basically says it all. ngl though, there is some killer advice in this thread already. Everyone already covered the Vantrue N4 and those heat issues which are honestly so important for BMW owners. I have been running the VIOFO A129 Plus Duo 2K 1440P 60fps in my X3 for ages and it is amazing! Seriously, for under 300 bucks you can get the cam, a high endurance card like the Samsung PRO Endurance 128GB microSDXC, and the VIOFO HK3 ACC Hardwire Kit and still have money left for lunch. This setup is super discrete and the image quality is fantastic even at night. Just be careful with the install... that fuse box behind the glovebox is a total pain to reach but stick with it! You dont want wires dangling everywhere. If you get stuck on which fuses to tap just ask, more than happy to walk you through it. You are gonna love the setup!
Would love to know this too
I use Vantrue N4. It's great, but be careful of the rear camera cable length in an X3.
For $300, think about refurb options. I've run a Rexing V1 in my '17 X3 for years; rock solid. New, they're a bit over budget, but refurbs are often available for under $200. Picture quality is decent, and it works. Depends on your needs, but a used quality cam often beats a brand new cheap one.
For $300, consider Vantrue. Market research shows Thinkware's image quality is superior, but often pricier. Vantrue offers decent value; consider the N4 Pro. Long-term, factor in SD card replacement costs. It works well for basic recording. Depends on your needs, but solid for the price.
Hey! For safety, consider Thinkware. Forget parking mode; focus on front/rear recording reliability. Heat is a killer in X3s! A cheaper cam that WORKS is better than a fancy one that fails when you need it most. Budget $200-300 for install too. Peace of mind is priceless!
