Hey everyone! I recently picked up a BMW 4 Series, and while I absolutely love the car, I’m struggling with the charging setup. The built-in tray in the center console is a bit cramped for my iPhone 14 Pro Max, and it seems to charge incredibly slowly while making my phone overheat. I'm looking for a solid aftermarket wireless charger that fits perfectly into the 4 Series interior without looking messy or blocking the cup holders. Does anyone have experience with specific brands like Inbay or maybe a high-quality vent mount that handles spirited driving well? I’d love to find something that supports fast charging and stays secure. What are you guys using in your builds?

sooo i totally feel u on this. honestly the oem bmw charger is basically a glorified heater for your phone... it's literally the worst part of the 4 series interior imo. i had the same issue with my 14 pro max and it was driving me crazy cuz the phone would just shut down from heat after like 20 mins of carplay. basically, those flat pads have zero airflow and the coils are inefficient, which is why it gets so hot.
for your situation, i actually wasted money on the Inbay Wireless Charging Tray for BMW 4 Series first. unfortunately, it wasnt as good as expected for the price. it still gets super hot in that enclosed space because there's zero ventilation... right? i spent like $100+ and tbh it was a total letdown.
here's what i recommend: i eventually switched to a more practical setup that actually handles spirited driving without the phone flying across the cabin. i went with the Rennline ExactFit Magnetic Phone Mount for BMW G22/G23/G26 paired with a Spigen ArcField MagFit Magnetic Wireless Charger. it's a bit more "visible" than the tray, but it keeps the phone in the air so it actually stays cool while fast charging. plus, it doesn't block the cup holders at all. i think i spent maybe $80 total for the whole kit vs the expensive inbay unit. it's way more reliable for a daily driver, even if it's not as "hidden" as i originally wanted. good luck! 👍
Honestly, if youre lookin to save some cash, just grab a ESR Magnetic Wireless Car Charger (HaloLock). It's like $25-30 and stays super secure even when I'm driving a bit crazy lol. Total steal tbh!
I went through this last year. Honestly, I totally get the frustration with that factory tray—BMW basically built a smartphone sauna in there! I spent weeks trying to figure out a setup that didn't look like a cluttered mess of wires. Since I’m pretty conservative about my interior, I was super worried about damaging the dash or blocking those gorgeous vents. I actually tried a few different setups, including some cheap vent clips that literally flew off the first time I took a corner with some spirit, which was honestly terrifying.
Before you commit to anything tho, are you looking to keep the phone hidden away for a clean look, or do you need it visible for maps? Also, what's the budget you're working with? I found that skipping the cheap stuff saved me money in the long run cuz those budget mounts just don't hold up to the vibration of a 4 Series on a fun road. Tbh, it's worth being a bit cautious so you don't scratch your trim!
Wait really?? Thats actually super helpful. I always thought it was the other way around.
