Hey everyone! We’re planning a big summer road trip in our Cadillac XT6 and realizing that with the kids and the dog, the trunk space is disappearing fast. I’m looking for the best roof rack options that won't ruin the car's sleek look or create too much wind noise on the highway. I’ve looked at the OEM rails, but I’m curious if Thule or Yakima crossbars offer better clearance for a large cargo box. Does anyone have experience with specific models that fit the XT6 flush rails well? I’m mostly worried about the sunroof clearance and ease of installation. What setup are you all using for family hauls?

For your situation, I've actually been through this exact same struggle with my XT6! Honestly, I was sooo worried about the panoramic sunroof clearance too, cuz hitting that glass would be a total nightmare. I ended up going with the Thule WingBar Edge Roof Rack System for Cadillac XT6 and it has been absolutely amazing.

I mean, the OEM rails are okay, but the Thule setup looks way more integrated with the flush rails on the Caddy. The clearance is tight, but I can still vent the sunroof without any issues, tho I wouldn't fully slide it back when the box is loaded just to be safe lol. For the cargo part, I paired it with the Thule Motion XT XXL Cargo Carrier 22 Cubic Feet and it's HUGE. We literally fit all the kids' gear and a massive dog bed in there.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Yakima JetStream Crossbars with SkyLine Towers are also a pretty solid value proposition if you want something that's super easy to pop off when the trip is over. But honestly, the Thule is so quiet on the highway that I just leave mine on year-round. It barely affects the MPG, maybe like 1-2 miles per gallon max? Totally worth it for the extra sanity on long hauls! Basically, just make sure you get the right fit kit for the XT6 flush rails and you're golden.

TL;DR: Go with the Thule WingBar Edge for the best look and quietest ride. It clears the sunroof just fine and looks highkey factory! gl! 👍

Sooo, I literally just went through this last month for our XT6 and honestly, it was kinda a disaster at first. I tried a cheaper set from a random brand and the clearance was so low that I couldn't even vent the sunroof without it hitting the mounting bolts... seriously scary stuff! Safety is highkey my biggest worry cuz I dont wanna crack that glass with a heavy load.

I ended up returning those and getting the Rhino-Rack Vortex StealthBar Black 2 Bar Roof Rack. Why it matters? Well, basically these bars have a slightly arched profile that gives you that crucial extra half-inch of breathing room for the panoramic roof. Plus, they're super quiet on the highway. Unfortunately, installation was a bit of a pain at first because the instructions suck, but once they're locked onto the flush rails, they feel solid as a rock. Just make sure you double-check the torque on the bolts after like 50 miles, you know?

For your situation, I'd honestly look at the Yakima TimberLine Towers paired with the Yakima JetStream Crossbars 60 inch Black.

I went this route cuz Thule is sooo expensive and these are basically just as quiet!

1. Price: You'll save like $100+ vs OEM or Thule.
2. Clearance: The TimberLine towers sit high enough that the sunroof wont hit the clamps.
3. Capacity: It handles 165 lbs easily.

Seriously, the value is amazing and it looks highkey sleek on the XT6! 👍

Curious about one thing: what’s the total weight of your gear? I agree those bars are awesome, but check the weight limit first... safety is EVERYTHING tbh! 👍
