Which roof rack system works best for the Cadillac XT5?

I’m looking to add some extra storage for road trips, but I’m torn between the OEM rails or going with something like Thule or Yakima. Does anyone have experience with wind noise or clearance issues on the XT5? I’m specifically worried about the sunroof operation. Which brand offers the most secure fit without scratching the finish?

Ok so, I've been through this exact dilemma with my XT5 and honestly, I totally get the anxiety about the sunroof and potential scratches. I'm a bit of a stickler for my car's finish, so I spent way too much time researching this stuff lol.

In my experience, if you're looking to save some serious cash without sacrificing the security of your gear, here's how I see the options:

1. Cadillac XT5 Roof Rack Cross Rail Package: This is basically the safest bet for clearance. I picked mine up for about $250 online (check parts wholesalers!). It's designed specifically for our flush rails, so the sunroof clears it perfectly with zero stress. It's lowkey the most "integrated" look you can get.

2. Thule WingBar Edge for Cadillac XT5: These are GORGEOUS and super quiet, but man, they are pricey—usually $600+. I tried them on a buddy's car and while they're premium, I didn't feel like they were $350 better than the OEM ones for a basic road trip setup.

3. Brightlines Roof Rack Crossbars for Cadillac XT5: If you're on a budget, these are a total steal at around $130-$150. I actually used these for a season! They're a bit noisier than the high-end stuff, but they didn't scratch the finish at all cuz the rubber padding is actually decent.

Personally, I'm super satisfied with the OEM rails paired with a Thule Force XT Cargo Roof Box. It’s the best middle-ground for cost and fitment. Just watch the torque when tightening them so you don't mar the rails... but yeah, you'll be fine!! gl!

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, safety is my main concern too since the XT5 has that HUGE sunroof. If you're worried about the finish, I’d look at these two:

1. Yakima JetStream Crossbars - Super secure fit and very aerodynamic, which helps with the wind noise.
2. Thule WingBar Evo - These are basically the gold standard for reliability and weight capacity.

I’d probably check with a pro installer first though, just to be 100% sure about the clearance. Better safe than sorry! 👍

Check out the eTrailer fit guide; it's a great resource! In my experience, the Rhino-Rack Vortex StealthBar is a solid, quieter alternative to the big names that wont scratch ur finish.

In my experience, you dont always need to drop $600+ just to get some extra space up there. When I first got my XT5, I was sooo worried about that massive sunroof. I actually tried a super cheap pair of bars from a random site first, but the wind noise was LITERALLY deafening on the highway. I learned the hard way that saving a few bucks isnt worth it if ur ears are bleeding lol. I eventually switched to my current setup which was a more mid-range, aerodynamic option. It sits just high enough that the glass clears perfectly, and honestly, the finish has stayed mint because I put a little bit of clear vinyl tape under the feet before mounting. It was a pretty simple fix that saved me a lot of stress about scratches. Over the years, I've found that focusing on the foot design rather than just a big brand name is the way to go for the best value. peace

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, I mean, the previous poster really hit the nail on the head regarding the finish protection. Basically, before you mount anything, the most important technical detail is the clearance for the Cadillac's UltraView sunroof. Since the XT5 roof rails are flush, some low-profile bars might actually block the glass from tilting or sliding open, which is a total nightmare if you forget and hit the switch...

I was looking at the Yakima JetStream Crossbars with the Yakima SightLine Towers for my own rig. They're pretty solid cuz the towers are designed specifically for flush rails like ours. From a technical side, these aerodynamic teardrop shapes literally cut through the wind to reduce that whistling noise you're worried about. Plus, you might want to consider the Yakima SkyBox 16 Carbonite Cargo Box if you need huge storage. It's a bit of an investment, but the value is there for long-term use. Just be careful with the torque when tightening everything so you dont crush the rail gaskets, you know? Hope that helps! 👍
