I’m finally taking delivery of my Silverado EV soon and need to get my garage set up! Since this beast has such a massive battery pack (200+ kWh), I’m a bit overwhelmed by the charging options. I want something that can actually take advantage of the truck's high acceptance rate without taking days to top off. I’m specifically looking for a hardwired Level 2 station that’s rugged and maybe has a longer cable since the truck is so long. Does anyone have experience with the GM PowerPlay or should I stick with a ChargePoint or Wallbox? What’s the best high-amperage charger that can handle the Silverado's capacity efficiently?
Ok so, taking delivery of that Silverado is HUGE, congrats!! Ngl, that 200kWh battery is basically a whole house on wheels lol. For a budget-friendly way to get high amperage, I'd seriously look at the Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger 40 Amp. It's built like a tank and has a 24ft cable which youll definitely need for that long truck bed. Honestly, its usually around $350-$400 which is a STEAL compared to the GM branded stuff. Just make sure ur electrician uses a 50A circuit and you'll be golden for overnight top-offs! 👍
Ok so, I'd actually suggest a different approach—respectfully, those 40A and 48A chargers are gonna leave you waiting forever with that 200kWh monster. I had issues with a standard 40A unit on my last truck and it was sooo slow. Since the Silverado EV can actually pull 19.2kW at home, you’re basically wasting its potential if you dont go bigger.
I’d honestly look at the GM Energy Powershift Charger 80 Amp. It's designed specifically for the Ultium platform and handles that massive battery way more efficiently than the budget options mentioned earlier. Plus, it’s rugged enough for a big garage. If that’s too pricey, the Tesla Universal Wall Connector 48 Amp/11.5kW is a solid backup cuz of the long cable, but for a Silverado, you really wanna maximize that amperage. It’s a huge investment up front, but way better than waking up to a half-full battery!! gl with the new truck!
So basically the consensus is that ur 200kWh beast needs some serious juice to avoid charging for days lol. Ppl have suggested everything from budget-friendly 40A units to high-end 80A setups. Honestly tho, just get any reputable hardwired station from GM or ChargePoint that handles high amperage. I've seen too many DIY jobs melt... seriously, hire a pro to check your wiring first! Safety is HUGE when ur pulling that much power. gl!
Works great for me
yo, congrats on the beast!! Honestly, with that 200kWh+ pack, you gotta go big or you'll be charging forever. I went with the Enel X Way JuiceBox 48 Smart EV Charging Station hardwired on a 60A circuit. It pushes 11.5kW which is basically the max for most home setups. If you want even more juice, the GM Energy PowerShift Charger is actually legit cuz it handles up to 19.2kW (80A), which the Silverado can actually take advantage of. It's pricey tho!
Just saw this and had to jump in... that 200kWh pack is basically a second mortgage in battery form lol. If you're doing the install yourself, be careful because these big trucks draw max current for a long time which generates a ton of heat.
