We recently upgraded to a Chevy Traverse for our growing family, and we’re planning our first long road trip this summer with the kids. While the interior is spacious, I’m realizing we need some better organization to keep things from becoming a mess. I’m specifically looking for a durable cargo liner that actually fits behind the third row and maybe some high-quality tablet holders for the headrests to keep the little ones entertained. We have the factory roof rails, but I haven't picked out a cargo carrier yet. Does anyone have specific brands or 'must-have' accessories that have made your Traverse trips more manageable and less cluttered?

Good to know!

Quick question - before I dive into some budget-friendly hacks I've used, are you planning on keeping that third row up or down for the actual drive? Honestly, knowing the ages of the kids helps too because that TOTALLY changes which organizers and carriers I'd suggest from my own Traverse mess lol!

Seconding the recommendation above! WeatherTech is great, but if you wanna save some cash, honestly check out the SMARTLINER Custom Fit Cargo Liner Behind 3rd Row for 2018-2023 Chevrolet Traverse. It's usually under $100 and fits like a glove.

For the roof, I've found that MaxxHaul 70115 Steel Roof Rack Cargo Carrier is a total steal at around $120. It's super sturdy for bags and basically doubles your storage space without breaking the bank. Just grab some cheap ratchet straps and you're good to go! gl!

Regarding what #4 said about "Good to know!" - honestly, you learn the hard way after a few 500-mile legs. Ive had issues with those high-end cargo bags people recommend. Unfortunately, they almost always flap against the roof and scratch the paint, or worse, they leak when you hit a summer storm. I was really disappointed with the durability of soft carriers after my gear got soaked near Nashville. If you want to do it right, skip the bags and look at the YAKIMA SkyBox 16 Carbonite Cargo Box. It fits the Traverse factory rails without needing extra adapters and its actually quiet on the highway. Adding my own perspective from years of DIY fixes for the kids:

  • Tablet mounts: I tried the expensive "pro" versions and they were basically junk. Flimsy plastic that snapped. The Lamicall Car Tablet Headrest Mount Holder is much better because it uses a more rigid arm that doesnt bounce every time you hit a pothole.
  • Floor protection: I actually found the hard plastic liners a bit too slippery for groceries. Stuff just flies around back there. I switched to the 3D MAXpider Kagu Series Floor Mat for the cargo area because the surface has some grip to it and looks less like a utility van.
  • Seat gaps: Do yourself a favor and get something like the Drop Stop The Original Patented Car Seat Gap Filler. My kids dropped a phone into the seat track once and it took me an hour to fish it out at a rest stop. Never again.

For your situation, I'd say you gotta look at the WeatherTech Cargo Liner for Chevrolet Traverse because it actually covers behind the third row properly. Honestly, i think the TuffRider Tablet Headrest Mount is pretty solid too cuz it doesnt shake much. For the roof, be careful with weight specs but I recommend the Thule Motion XT L Rooftop Cargo Carrier... it's literally a lifesaver for long trips when the trunk is full!! gl with the kids lol

Building on the earlier suggestion, I actually have to disagree about the open metal racks for family trips. Been there, done that, and honestly... cleaning bugs and road grime off your luggage after a 6-hour drive is the absolute worst thing ever lol. In my experience, you really want a sealed box if you can swing it.

  • Skip the slippery liners and look at the Husky Liners WeatherBeater Series Cargo Liner. I've tried many brands over the years and these have a much better rubbery grip compared to the hard plastic feel of other brands. Your groceries and gear wont slide around nearly as much back there.
  • For the roof, I'd go with the Yakima SkyBox 16 Carbonite. It is way more aerodynamic than a basket and keeps your gear bone dry in a downpour. It fits the Traverse factory rails perfectly and you can actually reach the clamps without needing a PhD.
  • For the kids, definitely check out the Macally Car Headrest Mount Tablet Holder. Those velcro strap-on ones always end up sagging after an hour, but this one clamps directly to the metal headrest poles. Its super sturdy and survives the kids accidentally kicking the seat back. Also, grab a small trash bin that clips to the center console. The Traverse is huge, but it gets messy fast with snack wrappers everywhere... trust me on that one tho.
