for your situation, i went with the Baja Designs 30-inch S8 Amber Driving/Combo LED Light Bar tucked into the grille. i'm a pretty cautious driver and really didnt want to drill into my new roof or deal with that annoying hood glare you get from roof-mounted bars. plus, the grille mount keeps it protected. i used the Baja Designs Chevrolet Colorado S8 Grille Mount Kit and it fit like a glove with no custom drilling at all, which was a huge relief cuz i didnt wanna mess anything up lol.
i think the driving/combo pattern is the way to go because it gives you that distance (throw) but also fills in the sides so you dont clip a tree branch or something. it's seriously bright... like, i dont even use my high beams anymore. i actually had a local shop do the wiring just to be safe and make sure the warranty stayed solid, which i definitely recommend if youre not a pro with electronics. its a bit of an investment but i feel sooo much safer out there now. good luck with the build!! 👍

I mean, if you're hitting the desert, throw distance is EVERYTHING. I went with a 30-inch hidden grille setup cuz it keeps the light low and cuts the glare on the hood, which is sooo annoying with roof mounts. But honestly, a 40-inch on top gives you that massive flood area... ngl the wind whistle might drive u crazy tho. Just make sure you get a spot/flood combo for the best mix!
