I’m loving my new Equinox EV, but the center console and floor area are already becoming a tangled mess of USB-C and phone cords. Since the interior layout is a bit unique with that floating center console and specific storage nooks, I’m struggling to find a cable management solution that actually looks clean. I’ve looked at some generic clips, but I’m worried they won't stick well to the textured plastic. I’m really looking for something that fits the minimalist aesthetic of the cabin and keeps the cords tucked away when not in use. Does anyone have specific brand recommendations or custom 3D-printed organizers that fit the Equinox EV's interior perfectly?
ngl I've had some major safety concerns with those dangling cords getting stuck near the floor pedals in my Equinox EV. It's actually scary... So I tried the Native Union Belt Cable XL USB-C to USB-C 10ft which has a built-in leather strap. It lets you coil the extra length so it doesn't flop around the floor. If that's still too messy, check out Baseus Retractable USB C Cable 65W. It stays TIGHT and tucked away in the storage nook when you aren't using it. way safer imo!!
Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, most adhesives just won't cut it on that textured dash. I've spent way too much on stuff that just peels off.
1. Sinjimoru Magnetic Cable Holder - Better than clips cuz it uses a silicone base that grips better, but u still gotta prep with alcohol.
2. Rabbitgoo Cable Clips 5-Pack - Super cheap alternative if you use the storage nook floor instead of the textured sides.
Basically, stick to the smooth plastic areas or you're gonna have a bad time lol.
Sooo, the thing with the Equinox EV is that textured plastic on the console... it's actually a nightmare for standard adhesives. Basically, the surface energy is too low for those cheap 3M pads to bite, and I honestly found that most generic clips just peel off after a day in the heat. It sucks cuz that floating console layout is so open that wires just dangle into the footwell. I think I heard someone mention a 3D printed insert on a forum that fits that specific lower nook, but I havent tried it yet.
I personally tried some generic rubber clips and was pretty disappointed when they fell off. I guess if you want it to actually stay, you gotta look for weighted magnetic blocks like the ones from Anker or similar brands. They stay put better without relying on glue. Not 100% sure if there is a perfect 'custom' fit yet, but magnetic is lowkey the way to go for that minimalist look. gl!
Not to disagree, but I've had a different experience with the adhesive situation in the Equinox EV. While the textured plastic is definitely tricky, I found that you just gotta prep the surface right or go with a different mounting spot altogether. Instead of sticking clips to that rough console side, I'd actually suggest a different approach—using a high-quality magnetic mount or weighted organizer that doesnt rely on sticky pads alone.
I mean, if you really want it to stay put, I've had good luck using 3M VHB Tape 5952 Heavy Duty Mounting Tape to reinforce any generic clips you find. It literally bites into textured surfaces way better than the stock stuff. But honestly, for a cleaner look, I moved away from clips and started using a Spigen MagFit Magnetic Cable Holder. You can tuck it into the more smooth plastic areas under the floating console and it looks super minimalist, which is what you're after, right?
Another option if you're worried about the plastic is the Anker Magnetic Cable Organizer (2-Pack). It uses a reusable adhesive that actually feels more like a suction cup than a sticker. It might still struggle with the heaviest textures, but it stays put on the flatter sections of the storage nook. Plus, it's only about $10-$15, so it's a pretty low-cost experiment before you go the custom 3D-printed route. Just make sure to clean the spot with isopropyl alcohol first or it definitely wont stick!! gl!
^ This. Also, the safety aspect mentioned earlier is huge. In my experience, I've seen far too many people have close calls with cords getting caught near the pedals... it happens faster than you think. Looking at what everyone else said, it seems like the main takeaways are that adhesives just wont stick to that textured plastic and the floating console makes everything look like a birds nest. I'm not 100% sure if this fits the Equinox EV perfectly, but I've heard of some guys doing a DIY approach:
Same setup here, love it
