Hey everyone! I recently picked up a Dodge Grand Caravan, and while I love all the storage space, my groceries keep sliding everywhere whenever I take a turn. I’m specifically looking for an organizer that fits snugly in that deep trunk well behind the third row. Since I use the Stow 'n Go seating quite often, I need something collapsible or easy to move when I'm folding the seats down. Has anyone found a heavy-duty bin or a net system that actually stays put on the carpeted floor? I’m tired of hearing loose items roll around back there! Does anyone have a specific brand or model that fits the Caravan’s unique rear dimensions perfectly?
ngl I had issues with generic nets so I tried the Dodge Grand Caravan Envelope Style Trunk Cargo Net but it was way too small. Honestly, the Drive Auto Car Organizer is better cuz it actually fits that deep well, though it slides a bit on the carpet... maybe try the Starling's Car Trunk Organizer? It's sturdy but expensive tbh.
sooo i just saw this and honestly, i feel your pain. i had issues with items flying around my 2018 caravan too... it's literally so annoying when milk jugs explode in that deep well. tbh, i tried some cheap bins and they just slid around and hit the plastic walls. not as good as expected, right?
for your situation, i'd really suggest looking at the Starling's Car Trunk Organizer with Adjustable Straps. the reason it works better than others i've tried is because it actually has tie-down straps. basically, you can hook it to the stow 'n go seat anchors or the cargo loops so it stays put on the carpet. plus:
1. it's super easy to collapse when you need to fold the seats down
2. the bottom is waterproof, which is a lifesaver for grocery leaks
3. it's heavy-duty enough that it won't just buckle under heavy cans
i guess you could also look at the Rola 59001 M.O.V.E. Rigid-Base Trunk Organizer if you want something even more solid, but it's a bit heavier to move. just be careful with the dimensions cuz that well is deeper than it looks! gl!
Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, like the previous posters said, finding something that doesn't slide on that specific Caravan carpet is a total nightmare. I've spent way too much time chasing runaway oranges in my 2017 lol. I definitely agree that a collapsible bin is the way to go because of the Stow 'n Go—you really don't want to be lugging a heavy plastic crate out of the van every time you need to fold the seats down.
I've been pretty satisfied with staying budget-conscious on this. You don't need to spend a fortune, but you gotta be careful about the 'slick' bottomed ones. Here's what worked for me:
* Look into the stuff from Starling. Their organizers usually have better grip on the bottom, which is CRITICAL for that deep well.
* If you're worried about sliding, just grab any generic cargo brand from Fortem or TrunkShield, but honestly, add a small strip of heavy-duty adhesive velcro to the bottom. It's a cheap fix and it works so well tho!
* Try to find a model that has tie-down straps. Most Caravans have small loops in the trunk area you can hook into.
Basically, I'd say go with anything from a brand like Honey-Can-Do or even a sturdy Trunk Organizer from Trunkite. Just make sure it's the foldable fabric kind. I've been really happy with my setup and haven't had a milk jug tip over in months... which is a huge win in my book. Good luck getting it sorted!!
Honestly, I've had a different experience with those collapsible bins everyone's talking about. I've been driving Caravans for over a decade, and in my experience, the problem isn't just the sliding—it's the SAFETY risk when you have heavy groceries in a soft-sided bin that can tip over during a sudden swerve. It's actually pretty scary when a heavy detergent bottle becomes a projectile!
Instead of a bin, I'd suggest a different approach based on what I've learned the hard way:
* Look for heavy-duty rubberized mats to line the well first; it's the only way to stop the 'skating' effect on that slick carpet.
* Try a rigid tension-based divider system. My current setup uses a solid barrier that actually locks into the side grooves, which is way more stable than a bag.
* Use the built-in grocery hooks on the back of the seats for the light stuff.
I tried the flexible organizers before and was sooo disappointed when the sides collapsed under the weight of a gallon of milk. Definitely go for something with rigid walls if you can find it! peace
