I’m beyond excited to finally pick up my new Daytona, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the EVSE options. I'm looking for a reliable Level 2 setup that can handle the car's 11.5 kW onboard charger. Does anyone have experience with the Mopar Branded iEVSE or should I stick with a ChargePoint or Wallbox for better app features? What are you all using to keep your Charger topped up?
For your situation, I recommend looking beyond the Mopar one. It's basically a rebadged Webasto Go Dual Voltage Portable EV Charger, and while it works, you pay a premium for that logo. To max out that 11.5 kW charger, you'll honestly want a hardwired unit on a 60-amp circuit.
I've used the ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 EV Charger for a while now and it's great because the app is super polished. If you want something more rugged, the Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger is basically a tank, though it lacks the fancy smart features. Ngl, the ChargePoint is the better long-term value for the tracking alone. 👍
Ok so, before I give advice, I gotta ask: what's ur current electrical setup at home?? In my experience, the Daytona is a beast to charge, and 11.5 kW is no joke. Are u planning to hardwire it to a 60-amp breaker, or are u stuck with a standard NEMA 14-50 outlet?
I've tried many setups over the years, and honestly, if ur looking for the best bang for ur buck, skip the Mopar branding. You're just paying for the logo. If u want serious value and reliability, check these out:
- Emporia Level 2 EV Charger 48 Amp - Seriously, this thing is like $400 and the app features blow the Mopar unit out of the water.
- Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger 40 Amp - If u want something literally bulletproof and don't care about apps, this is it. It's built like a tank.
But yeah, lmk about ur panel capacity first cuz that changes EVERYTHING! gl!!
Seconding the recommendation above! Basically, I've been in the EV game for years, and when I first started, I messed up with a cheap plug-in setup. For your Daytona, you really gotta go with Wallbox or even Tesla. Just get any hardwired unit from those brands because they’re honestly amazing for high-speed charging. Hardwiring is highkey the only way to hit that 11.5kW limit safely!! I learned that the hard way... gl! 👍
Just sharing my experience: I went through this last year and honesty I stayed away from the Mopar stuff because I'm super paranoid about heat buildup on long charging sessions... 11.5 kW is a massive load for a residential panel to sustain for hours! I ended up going with the Grizzl-E Smart Level 2 EV Charger 40 Amp hardwired on a 50-amp circuit, but since you want to max out that 48-amp draw, I'd seriously suggest the JuiceBox 48 Smart EV Charging Station instead. I chose it because of the UL certification and the heavy-duty internal components—safety first, right?? NGL, the Mopar rebadge just felt like I was paying for a logo rather than better thermals lol. Just make sure ur electrician uses high-quality wire and doesn't cut corners on the breaker... literally the most important part! 👍
