Best radar detector setup for a Ferrari 812 Superfast?

I just took delivery of a Ferrari 812 Superfast and I’m absolutely loving the V12, but it's way too easy to find yourself well over the speed limit without realizing it. I’m looking for the ultimate radar detector setup that won't clutter the beautiful interior. Should I go with a high-end portable unit like the Valentine 1 Gen2 or Uniden R8, or is a custom integrated system like the Escort MAX Ci 360 better for this car? I’m specifically worried about laser protection and how to neatly route the wiring around the passenger footwell and mirror. Does anyone have experience with which setup offers the best range without constant false alerts in a high-performance car like this?

Honestly, for a car like the 812, you gotta go with a custom install. I've tried many portable units over the years, and while the Uniden R8 Extreme Long Range Radar Detector is incredible, it kinda ruins the clean dash look of a Ferrari. In my experience, the Escort MAX Ci 360 Custom Installed Radar Detector is the way to go cuz it's basically invisible and the laser shifters are a lifesaver. Plus, having the display integrated means no messy wires near the mirror!

yo, congrats on the 812! that V12 is basically a cheat code for getting tickets lol. I've spent way too much time obsessing over this technical stuff, and honestly, if you're worried about laser protection, you NEED active jamming. Detectors alone wont save you from LIDAR because by the time they beep, they already got your speed.

You might find this useful—check out the forums at **Vortex Radar** or **RDForum**. Those guys are basically the ultimate resource for technical testing and range data. Seriously, they're the gold standard for this.

Since the others already mentioned the Uniden R8 Extreme Long Range Radar Detector and the Escort MAX Ci 360 Custom Installed Radar Detector, here is what I would suggest for a technical, high-end alternative:

1. **Laser Priority (ALP)**: Most enthusiasts agree that Laser Priority Dual Sensor Protection System is the absolute best for laser jamming. You can actually integrate it with different radar heads too.
2. **Radenso + ALP**: A lot of Ferrari owners go for the Radenso RC M Remote Radar Detector paired with the ALP. It's super discreet and the false alert filtering is top-tier so it doesnt drive you crazy in the city.
3. **The Mirror Mount**: To keep it clean, check out BlendMount Radar Detector Mount and MirrorTap Power Cord. It basically taps into the auto-dimming mirror power so you dont have wires dangling everywhere.

Make sure to get a professional installer who knows Ferraris... you dont want just anyone poking around that footwell! gl!

For your situation, I'd honestly look at the budget side of things before dropping $3k+ on a custom install. I totally get wanting to keep the 812 interior pristine, but the price-to-performance ratio on some high-end portables is actually *insane* right now. I've been super happy with a high-end portable unit mounted high by the mirror—if you hardwire it to the fuse box (which is pretty easy in the passenger footwell), you barely see any wires at all.

Here's what I'd consider:
- Hardwire kit: Costs like $30 and saves you from that dangling cigarette lighter mess.
- BlendMount: It clips to the mirror stem so nothing is stuck to the glass.
- Radenso: Their stuff is great for filtering out blind-spot monitor false alerts.

Custom installs are cool, but the labor costs are high and they're a pain to move if you sell the car. Just my two cents tho, gl!

Works great for me

I went through this last year with my Pista and honestly, the safety aspect is what kept me up at night. After decades of driving high-performance cars, I've learned that relying on a suction cup mount is just asking for a projectile to hit you in the face if things go south at high speeds. I tried the portable route first, but the clutter and the constant worry about the wiring getting snagged near the passenger footwell was just too much stress.

Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with a rushed install on a previous car where the tech tapped into the wrong mirror power source, causing a total electrical headache. For the Ferrari, I ended up choosing the Radenso RC M Ultimate Edition combined with the AL Priority Triple Laser Jammer system. It's not as cheap as a plug-and-play unit, but the piece of mind knowing I have actual active protection without wires draped over that beautiful carbon fiber dash is worth it.

Quick tip: definitely find a shop that specializes in Ferraris for the install to ensure the sensors are leveled perfectly. If they're off by even a few degrees, your laser protection is basically useless, right?

Bump - same question here

Building on the earlier suggestion regarding integrated setups, I definitely think it's the only way to go for an 812 if you plan on keeping it long-term. Suction mounts are just annoying and eventually ruin the look of the glass or leather. I would suggest looking at the Radenso RC M as a solid alternative. Its got some of the best false alert filtering out there right now. A few technical things to watch out for:

  • You gotta be careful where the radar horn is mounted behind the front bumper. The 812 has a lot of carbon fiber and metal mesh that can seriously cut down your detection range if it is blocked even slightly.
  • Make sure the installer uses a dedicated power source that doesnt tap directly into the sensitive Ferrari CAN bus. I've seen these cars throw Christmas tree lights on the dash just because of a messy wire tap.
  • The Radenso RC M pairs really well with external shifters if you decide you need that LIDAR protection later. Its worth the extra cost for the peace of mind tbh. Just make sure the GPS antenna has a clear view or it wont lock onto red light camera locations properly.
