Hey everyone! I just picked up my new Maverick and I'm absolutely loving it, but I'm quickly realizing that the 4.5-foot bed fills up fast. I really want to make the most of the space without everything sliding around while I'm driving. I’ve seen some people using the built-in FlexBed slots for DIY 2x4 dividers, but I’m also considering more permanent options like a swing-out toolbox or a weather-sealed tonneau cover. I mostly carry grocery bags and some light camping gear, so efficiency is my top priority. For those who have lived with the truck for a while, what are your must-have storage upgrades to keep the bed organized and secure?

So basically the consensus is that the Maverick bed needs help lol. Everyone agrees things slide around way too much in that 4.5ft space. Tbh, if you’re mostly doing groceries on a budget, just grab the Ford Maverick Bed Cargo Net - VNZ6Z-99116L07-A for about $60. It’s super cheap, keeps bags upright, and doesn't eat up floor space like those big permanent boxes do. Worth a look!!

Just found this thread today, and honestly, I went through this exact same struggle last year trying to figure out how to keep my gear from flying everywhere in that 4.5ft bed. I've tried basically everything from cheap wood to high-end cases. In my experience, there are two ways to play this:

* UnderCover SwingCase Truck Bed Storage Box SC207D vs Ford Bed Divider Kit NZ6Z-99000A25-A
* The SwingCase is literal genius for grocery bags and small camping tools cuz it utilizes that weird dead space behind the wheel wells. Super easy access without climbing in.
* The official Ford Divider is way more robust than a 2x4. It locks into the C-channels, so it doesn't rattle or slide like the wood DIY stuff sometimes does after the lumber dries out and shrinks.

I ended up going with the SwingCase plus a BAK Industries BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Truck Bed Tonneau Cover 448339 because keeping things dry is priority #1 for me when I'm out in the woods. Tbh the DIY slots are cool, but for permanent organization, those swing-out boxes are a total game changer... gl!

Oh man, congrats on the new Maverick!! Seriously, it’s such an AMAZING little truck, but I feel u on that bed space... it fills up sooo fast lol. For your situation, keeping things efficient is definitely the way to go! I’m still kinda new to the truck life too, but I’ve been researching this like crazy since I got mine.

Here's what I recommend:
* Rough Country Hard Tri-Fold Bed Tonneau Cover - Honestly, this is a lifesaver for groceries cuz it keeps everything hidden and dry.
* UnderCover SwingCase Truck Bed Toolbox SC207D - This is highkey the coolest mod... it swings out over the tailgate so you dont have to reach way in there for your camping gear.
* The DIY 2x4 divider! Basically costs nothing and stops bags from sliding to the front.

I actually used a scrap board for my divider and it works great! Are you planning on doing any heavy hauling or just sticking to the light gear?? Peace! 👍

In my experience, comparing brands like WeatherTech and Bak shows you really get what you pay for. I once tried a cheap budget route, but it just didn't hold up in the rain. My current setup uses a heavy rubber mat and it's been a lifesaver for my gear. I would suggest being careful with low-end brands tho... they're usually not as weather-sealed as they claim! gl

In my experience, safety is key. I once had gear slide and almost smash my window! My current setup uses $30 adjustable cargo bars to keep ur stuff locked down tight, tbh. Great value tho!

^ This. Also, summarizing what we have so far, it basically comes down to choosing between the flexibility of nets or the permanence of dividers and boxes. From a technical DIY perspective, those FlexBed slots are really the foundation for everything because they let you customize the geometry of the load floor without drilling.

  • Bed width between wheel wells is exactly 42.6 inches
  • Slot depths are designed for standard dimensional lumber
  • 12V pre-wiring allows for integrated LED lighting kits Actually, speaking of building things for trucks, I spent my whole Saturday trying to calibrate a new table saw I bought for my workshop. I got so obsessed with getting the fence perfectly square to within a thousandth of an inch that I totally forgot I was supposed to be building a shelf for the laundry room. I ended up reading through a 50-page technical manual on blade runout and spent way too much money on a digital dial indicator just to prove a point to myself. My garage is a total disaster area now and my wife is still waiting for that shelf. Anyway lol sorry kinda went off topic there.
