So I finally got my 2023 Lightning XLT here in Denver and honestly Im already kinda annoyed trying to figure out what I actually need before we head into the mountains for a camping trip in three weeks. My logic was that Id just buy everything from the dealer but their prices are insane and half the stuff is on backorder anyway so that plan went out the window.
I spent like four hours on the forums and saw everyone talking about the Pro Power onboard stuff and getting a specific mobile charger but then I read that the Ford Charge Station Pro is the only way to go for home use if you want the fast speeds? But then other guys say a simple 14-50 NEMA outlet is totally fine and Im just frustrated because I dont want to blow my whole $1500 budget on just a stupid plug. I really need a good tonneau cover because of the snow here but every top 10 list shows these heavy hard-shell ones that look like theyd kill my range.
I just want to know what actually works in the real world without making the truck weigh ten tons more. Is a hard cover worth the weight or should I just stick to a roll-up one to save some miles? Im just trying to get this sorted before the trip and Im just spinning my wheels...
Real world data shows the BakFlip MX4 Hard Folding Tonneau Cover has negligible range impact. A Grizzl-E Classic NEMA 14-50 EV Charger is more reliable for cold Denver winters than Fords charger.
To add to the point above: weve covered chargers and covers, but cab safety and bed traction are just as vital for mountain trips. Im really satisfied with this setup:
I was in the same boat last winter. Seriously, those stock mats are trash for Denver snow. I switched to high-walled liners that catch all the slush and theyve been perfect. Just be careful with generic bed mats tho. I had one that didnt fit right and it actually started lifting at highway speeds... super sketchy.
Subbing for updates
> Is a hard cover worth the weight ^ This. Also, soft covers save weight. TruXedo Lo Pro Soft Roll-Up Truck Bed Tonneau Cover is a decent option and wont blow your budget for a Dee Zee Heavy Duty Bed Mat.
