I’ve been driving my Genesis G70 for about six months now, and while I absolutely love the power and the 3.3T engine, I feel like the stock exhaust is just a bit too quiet for my liking. It definitely lacks that aggressive growl that a sport sedan should have. I’m looking to upgrade to a performance exhaust system that provides a deeper, throatier tone without being obnoxious or causing excessive drone at highway speeds.
I’ve been looking into a few options like the Borla S-Type and the Ark Performance Grip, but I’m having a hard time deciding which one offers the best balance for a daily driver. I’m particularly concerned about fitment with the rear diffuser and whether I should go with a valved system to keep things civil in my neighborhood. My budget is around $1,500 to $2,000, and I'm hoping for something that's relatively bolt-on since I'll be doing the install in my garage.
For those of you who have modified your G70, which setup gave you the best sound improvement without sacrificing cabin comfort? Also, did you notice any actual gains in throttle response after the swap?
For the Genesis G70, the Borla S-Type is the gold standard if you want an aggressive tone without the dreaded highway drone. It even retains the factory active valve functionality on newer 3.3T models.
If you want a more "KDM authentic" vibe, look at JUN B.L or ARK Performance. ARK’s GRiP system uses Helmholtz resonators to keep things refined and mature. For a budget boost, many owners simply swap the secondary downpipes to unlock volume without a full cat-back!
Honestly, if you're worried about drone and neighborhood peace, be careful with the mid-pipes. I'd highly suggest looking at the Jun Bl EVC Performance Exhaust System or the Maintec Valvetronic Catback Exhaust. They're a bit pricier, but having those valves is a lifesaver for early morning starts. Just make sure to double-check the flange bolts during install so you dont get any leaks. Safety first! gl 👍
In my experience, getting the right sound on the 3.3T is kinda a balancing act. The turbos naturally muffle a lot of the engine note, so when you finally open it up, you really want to make sure you dont end up with that annoying highway drone. It basically ruins the luxury vibe of the car if you cant even hear ur music, you know?
Here is what I recommend from my time with the G70:
* I think a valved system is highkey the way to go. I'm not 100% sure on every brand, but I've heard that Ark Performance is a solid choice for a deep tone that stays civil when the valves are closed.
* If you're doing a garage install, Borla is usually pretty straightforward. IIRC, their fitment is usually spot on with the stock diffuser.
* As for gains, I felt like my throttle response was a bit snappier, but honestly, it might just be the sound making it feel faster lol.
Anyway, just take your time with the hangers during the install... but yeah, it's totally worth it! Peace.
Honestly, I was in the exact same boat as u a few months ago. For your budget, I would suggest checking out the Borla system since it fits that $1,500 range perfectly. I'm still a bit of a beginner with mods, but I did the install in my driveway and it was actually pretty straightforward!! Everything lined up with the stock diffuser no problem.
Since ur worried about drone, I've been super happy with how it sounds on the highway—it’s basically silent until u floor it. I didn't go with a valved setup cuz of the cost, and tbh, I dont think it's necessary if ur just looking for a deeper tone. I definitely noticed the throttle feels a bit more snappy too, which was a nice surprise lol. Just make sure u have a good jack and some penetrating oil for those rusty bolts! Good luck with the build, the 3.3T sounds so much better once it can actually breathe.
I went through this last year. honestly, I thought I’d be fine without a valved system, but boy was I wrong. over the years, I’ve learned that the 3.3T gets LOUD once you mess with the mid-pipes.
⚠️ Warning: Watch out for the "cold start" volume.
- Without valves, you’ll likely wake up the whole block at 6 AM.
- Cheap setups almost always drone at 70mph.
- Fitment around those oval tips can be a nightmare if the hangers aren't perfect.
tbh, I ended up swapping my first setup because the highway hum was basically unbearable. gl with the install!
