Hey everyone! I just officially joined the GV80 family last week after picking up a 2024 model in Uyuni White with the beige/urban brown interior. I am absolutely in love with the car so far—the ride quality is incredible—but every time I walk up to it in a parking lot, I can’t help but feel like I’m driving a fishbowl. The factory glass is just so clear, and against that bright white paint, the interior is visible from a mile away.
I’m planning to take it to a local shop this weekend for a full tint job, but I’m really torn on which shade to go with. I want to achieve that clean, high-end executive look that Genesis is known for, but I’m worried about going too dark and ruining the aesthetic—or worse, making it hard to see out of the side mirrors at night.
I have two specific concerns I’m hoping you guys can help with. First, I’m trying to figure out how to handle the factory privacy glass on the rear windows. I’ve heard the rear glass is usually around 20-25% from the factory, but it doesn't offer much in terms of actual heat rejection. Should I just try to match the front windows to the rear factory tint, or is it better to layer a lighter ceramic film over the back and go darker on the front to keep everything looking uniform? Second, I'm definitely going with a high-quality ceramic like XPEL or 3M because the heat here is no joke, and I want to protect that beautiful leather dash from UV damage.
For those of you with a white GV80, what percentages did you settle on? I’m leaning toward 20% all around, but I'm curious if the white paint makes the tint appear darker than it actually is because of the contrast.
What shade percentage do you think looks the most 'factory-plus' on the white exterior without looking like a limo?
In my experience, you gotta be careful because white cars have a weird way of making tint look darker than it is due to the contrast, but the light interior does the opposite by letting more light bounce around. It's a tricky balance! Over the years, I've seen a lot of people make the mistake of just matching the front to the back and calling it a day. The BIG warning here: factory privacy glass is just colored glass with zero heat rejection. If you only tint the front windows, your passengers will still bake and your AC will work twice as hard. Plus, the colors wont perfectly match because the factory dye has a different hue than ceramic film.
For your situation, I've found that doing 20% on the front doors and then layering a 50% or 70% ceramic film over the factory rear glass is the way to go. This basically brings the back down to about 15% total, which looks super high-end and keeps that 'executive' vibe without going full limo. I've tried many setups, and honestly, 20% on the front is the sweet spot for visibility. Anything darker and you'll be rolling down windows just to see your mirrors at night, which is a total pain.
Since you're worried about that beige dash, definitely do a 70% or 80% clear ceramic on the windshield too. It literally makes a massive difference in heat. Stick with high-end brands like XPEL or 3M... they're industry standards for a reason and wont fade to purple after two summers. Basically, go 20 up front and a light layer over the factory rear and it'll look clean as hell. Congrats on the new ride! lol
In my experience, I'd suggest a conservative approach. You could match the fronts to the rear, but that often makes night visibility tricky. I prefer 35% on the fronts versus 20%... just way safer. For my current setup, I put a clear film over the factory rear glass. It keeps that executive look without being too 'limo' dark, and it's honestly more budget-friendly too, right?
Ok so I totally agree with Reply #3 about prioritizing safety, especially with night visibility! Quick question before I give advice tho: do you mostly drive in well-lit urban areas or are you out on dark suburban roads at night? Ngl I'm super cautious cuz those side mirrors can be a nightmare to see through if you go too dark. I'd hate for you to scuff those rims!
> Should I just try to match the front windows to the rear factory tint, or is it better to layer a lighter ceramic film over the back?
Sooo, I've basically been doing this for years with my cars and honestly, don't just match the fronts! The factory rear glass is usually just stained, it wont stop the heat. I'm super happy with my setup: I put 20% XPEL PRIME XR PLUS Ceramic Window Tint on the front doors and then a lighter 50% or 70% layer of the same film over the factory rear glass. It matches perfectly and *actually* keeps the car cool. 20% looks high-end without being too "limo" imo, but yeah, with the beige seats it might look a bit lighter than you expect! good luck 👍
Honestly i just got mine done and it looks amazing! You totally gotta do it because that fishbowl feeling is the worst lol. I spent a bunch of time looking at brands and basically decided that as long as you go with a big name you are gonna be set.
