So I finally pulled the trigger on a new 2024 Canyon AT4X and man these shocks are incredible on the washboard roads around here but the bed space is already driving me crazy. I'm planning a big trip out to Moab in late June so I need to get some gear storage sorted fast before we head out. My budget is capped at about $2500 for the whole setup including any mounting hardware.

Right now im torn between two very different setups. First is the Leitner Designs Active Cargo System which looks absolutely killer but its basically my whole budget just for the rack and I still need to buy mounts for my Maxtrax and a shovel. The other way im leaning is just getting some BillieBars over a flush tonneau cover. Its way cheaper and keeps the truck lower since I have a low garage door at home but I dont know if I'll regret not having the full rack for future stuff like a rooftop tent.

Has anyone running an AT4X tried either of these? The Leitner seems like the gold standard but part of me thinks the BillieBars are more practical for a daily driver that needs to fit in a standard garage. Which one do you think handles the weight better when you're actually bouncing around off road?

Congrats on the new truck, tho I gotta say, some of these gear setups really let me down over the years.

  • Unfortunately, those full racks are a total bummer for standard garages and the wind noise is just brutal.
  • I had issues with mounting hardware rattling loose on the washboards, which was not as good as expected.
  • Honestly, just go with BillieBars. You cant go wrong with their gear.

Totally agree on the garage height issue. Ive spent years measuring clearances and high racks are usually more trouble than theyre worth for daily drivers. For Moab, you want a low center of gravity anyway. The BillieBars GMC Canyon Bed Bars are rated for 1000lbs static so theyll handle a tent later with zero flex.

  • Get a Retrax IX Retractable Tonneau Cover
  • Use T-slot mounts for Maxtrax Its a much more rigid setup for those high-frequency vibrations.

honestly, ive seen a lot of guys regret those tall racks the first time they hit a technical off-camber section in Moab. In my experience, keeping your weight as low as possible is the way to go for safety. The Leitner is a beast but its gonna make your truck feel real top-heavy on the rocks. If you want a rock-solid setup that wont break the bank or hit your garage door, check out the DECKED Drawer System GMC Canyon 5ft Bed. It keeps all your heavy gear down low where it belongs. Quick tip: whatever you choose, make sure your recovery gear is accessible. I use BuiltRight Industries GMC Canyon Bedside Rack Panels to keep my shovel and gear mounted right to the inside of the bed walls. It keeps everything tight and rattle-free on those washboards, and you still have the top of the bed for bigger stuff... definitely a safer bet than having a heavy shovel mounted way up in the air.

Re: "honestly, ive seen a lot of guys regret..."

  • Completely agree. Grab some Roam Adventure Co. 95L Rugged Case boxes instead. Keeping weight on the floor is safer for Moab and its way easier on the wallet.
