Hey everyone! I’m finally joining the Hummer EV club with the new SUV model, and I’m beyond excited to get this monster on the road. However, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the charging needs for a 200+ kWh battery pack. It’s definitely not like my previous smaller EV where a standard setup felt like enough!
I’ve already started looking into a solid Level 2 home station, but I’m curious what else I should be carrying in the frunk for daily use and trips. Given the massive battery capacity and the power draw, are there specific heavy-duty NEMA 14-50 adapters or portable chargers that you guys swear by? I’m also thinking about the transition to NACS—should I be looking for a high-quality CCS-to-Tesla Supercharger adapter now, or is there a specific brand that plays nicer with the Ultium platform? I want to be prepared for everything from remote trailheads to fast-charging stops at crowded stations.
What are the absolute essentials you’d recommend for a new owner to avoid charging hiccups? Specifically, are there any must-have cable organizers or ruggedized accessories that can handle the Hummer’s high amperage better than others?
Seconding what was said earlier—hardwiring is a MUST for that huge battery! If you wanna save money, I honestly suggest the Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger 40 Amp. It’s built like a tank and way cheaper than the smart units. For trips, definitely consider the Parkworld NEMA 14-50P to 14-50R Extension Cord 15ft. It’s rugged and cheaper than "EV" branded gear but works great for trailheads. gl!
Similar situation here. I was super worried about heat buildup during those long 200kWh charging cycles! I went for a budget-friendly setup that didnt compromise on safety:
- Emporia Level 2 EV Charger ($399)
- Hardwired setup (safer than outlets!!)
- Lectron Vortex Plug Tesla Supercharger NACS to CCS1 Adapter
Plug-in outlets just sketch me out with that amperage... tbh, always consult a pro first! gl.
Yo! Welcome to the club! Honestly, that 200kWh battery is a BEAST to fill. For home, I've used the ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 WiFi Enabled EV Charger for years and its rock solid. For the frunk, you gotta grab the A2Z Typhoon NACS to CCS1 Adapter for those Tesla stops and a Lectron NEMA 14-50 Level 2 EV Charger for emergencies... basically essentials.
TL;DR: High-amp home station and NACS adapter are MUSTS. peace 👍
Yo! Filling that huge battery is a trip. Ive been doing this for years, but the Hummers power draw is next level!
- My current setup is hardwired to handle the max amps cuz plug-in units can get sooo hot.
- I keep a beefy 14-50 adapter in my frunk for camping. The one I got handles the high heat really well.
- Basically, just get a sturdy bag for the cables... they're heavy right??
Works well for me, no complaints! GL!
