Which tonneau cover is recommended for the GMC Canyon?

I just picked up a new GMC Canyon and need a tonneau cover for the 5’2” bed. I'm torn between a hard tri-fold for security or a low-profile roll-up for better bed access. Since I live in a rainy climate, weather sealing is a top priority. Does anyone have a specific brand they swear by for fitment and durability?

Dude, congrats!! For rain, definitely go with any BAK cover. I’m kinda new to trucks but mine is SO good and keeps the bed totally dry, right? Good luck!

Quick question - how often do you actually haul tall gear that might block the rear window? Based on my years of market research:

1. BAK Revolver X4s Hard Rolling Truck Bed Cover is the market leader for security without losing visibility.
2. Extang Solid Fold 2.0 Tonneau Cover has superior weather sealing due to its over-the-rail design.

Honestly, both fit the Canyon bed perfectly, but it's a trade-off between access and rain protection. It works either way tho.

I went through this last year. Honestly, I tried to be cheap at first cuz these things are EXPENSIVE for what they are...

- First I bought a basic soft roll-up from a random brand just to save cash. Bad move. It leaked everywhere and my gear got soaked. Total waste of money.
- Ended up spending way more in the long run cuz I had to replace it after 3 months. If u want rain protection, just get any hard trifold from Gator or maybe Lund. You cant really go wrong with those brands, even if it hurts ur wallet at first.
- My current setup still lets a tiny bit of water in the corners tho, which is sooo annoying?? I guess no cover is 100% waterproof unless u spend thousands...

So yeah, definitely dont skimp if rain is ur main worry. How much are u actually looking to spend? Cuz the budget options might just cost u more later on tbh. peace.

I went through this last year! Honestly, it basically comes down to structural rigidity versus bed utility. Hard tri-folds offer superior security and *incredible* PSI load ratings, while roll-ups maintain a low-profile aesthetic.

* Whats your total budget?
* Need rack compatibility?

I mean, I personally went with a hard folding setup for the reinforced panels, even though it's a tradeoff for sure!!

Reading through this thread is great and it really captures the struggle between getting that hard-shell security versus the convenience of a roll-up. Honestly tho, I am in the exact same boat as you and it is driving me crazy... I have been researching options for my own Canyon for like three weeks now and I still cant find a cover that I trust 100% for compatibility and rain. It is so frustrating that despite all these different brands, there still isnt one clear winner that fits the bed rails perfectly without leaking or leaving weird gaps at the bulkhead... basically feel your pain on this one, I just want something that actually fits right!!

tbh I agree that weather sealing is the top priority but I have to disagree that it just comes down to the style of cover. On the new Canyons, you really need to look at the technical fitment issues before you pull the trigger. Ive seen way too many guys buy high-end covers that still leak because of how the bed rails are designed!!! Here are a few things you gotta watch out for: - The bed rail caps on the GMC can be slightly uneven, which makes it hard for some side-rail seals to sit 100% flush. - Tailgate gaps—the corners of the Canyon tailgate have a specific taper that often needs extra weather stripping regardless of what you pick.
- Drain tube routing is a huge pain in these trucks. If you dont plan where those tubes go, you'll end up with water pooling in the front corners anyway. Basically, dont just look at the cover... look at how it interacts with the plastic molding on your specific bed!!!

Honestly, reading through this thread is just making me frustrated because the state of the truck accessory market right now is basically a scam. Ive tried so many covers over the years and it drives me crazy how much they charge for mediocre engineering.

  • The pricing is totally out of control for what you actually get nowadays.
  • These brands slap a waterproof label on everything but then you look at the seals and they are paper thin.
  • Quality control has gone off a cliff while they keep jacking up the MSRP.
  • Most of these designs dont even account for the specific drainage issues on the new Canyon beds. Its honestly ridiculous that we have to spend a fortune and then still end up using silicon caulk and extra weather stripping just to keep our gear dry. Companies just dont seem to care about actual durability anymore, they just want the sale...
