Just picked up a new Honda Pilot TrailSport and I'm loving the factory setup, but I want to push its off-road capabilities a bit further for weekend trips. I’m mainly looking for functional upgrades that won't mess with the daily drivability. Specifically, has anyone found better skid plates for the fuel tank or rear diff? I'm also considering a low-profile roof rack for extra gear and maybe a more robust recovery kit. I’m trying to keep the build practical for light overlanding without voiding my warranty. For those who actually take theirs on the trails, what are the absolute 'must-have' accessories you'd recommend first?

Quick reply while I have a sec! Honestly, for the TrailSport, safety should be ur #1 priority before hitting the trails. Since ur looking for budget-friendly but functional, I highkey suggest focusing on recovery gear first. If u get stuck without it, it's a HUGE safety risk. Instead of those pricey custom plates, maybe start with a Rhino USA Recovery Tow Strap 3" x 20' and a GearAmerica UberShackle 5/8" D-Ring for reliable pull points. Here’s a few cheap essentials:
* Apex RCB-3745-U Universal Steel Roof Cargo Basket - around $120 and fits the factory bars.
* Viair 88P Portable Air Compressor - usually $90, essential for airing down safely.
* X-BULL Gen2 Recovery Tracks - basically $80 for peace of mind. Seriously, being able to fix a flat or get unstuck is more important than a diff plate for light overlanding. GL out there!!

In my experience, you gotta beef up the belly first. I'm SO happy with my setup cuz it keeps the warranty intact. - No-Lo Designs Honda Pilot Rear Differential Skid Plate: 3/16" steel is basically bulletproof. Con: Adds weight.
- JSW Offroad Honda Pilot Fuel Tank Skid Plate vs No-Lo Designs Honda Pilot Fuel Tank Skid Plate: JSW is highkey thicker, but No-Lo fits better imo. Honestly, ur gonna love the peace of mind on trails! gl!

Curious about one thing: what's your actual budget for this phase?? I learned the hard way with my setup that costs spiral SO fast. Honestly, adding too much weight reallyyy messed with my daily mpg. Before I suggest anything, I wanna know if ur trying to keep it super budget-friendly or if you're okay spending more for lighter materials? It makes a HUGE difference for daily driving!

Curious about one thing: I’ve been obsessing over the Pilots technical specs cuz I’m so worried about scraping my own bumper on trails. I learned that every pound of steel reallyyy affects the clearance!! Before I give advice, can you clarify: * What specific terrain are you hitting?
* Are you planning a lift later? Just wanna make sure we dont tank your breakover angle with the wrong gear!! gl
