Just picked up my new IONIQ 6 and I'm obsessed with the sleek design! I’m worried about rock chips on that low nose and door dings in tight parking lots. Are mud flaps or a specific PPF kit worth it? Looking for must-have protection that won't ruin the aero look. Any specific brands you’d recommend?

In my experience, that low nose is basically a magnet for rocks. Honestly, i was sooo disappointed with the factory paint thickness. I'd highkey recommend the XPEL Ultimate Plus Paint Protection Film for the full front bumper and hood cuz i already have two nasty chips. For the sides, i installed the Hyundai Genuine Accessories Ioniq 6 Mud Guards and they dont ruin the aero look at all, but unfortunately they're kinda small so they wont block everything lol. Peace!
Seconding the recommendation above. Honestly, the nose on this car is basically a target for every stray pebble on the highway, and since the Ioniq 6 is so low-slung, safety-wise you dont want road debris kicking up into your radiator or sensors.
If you're looking for a more budget-friendly route than a full professional PPF wrap, you might want to consider doing a DIY install on the high-impact areas. I mean, you can grab a VViViD 3M Scotchgard Paint Protection Film Strip 6 Inch x 60 Inch for like $20-$30 and just cut it to fit the lower lip. It's a bit of a project, but it saves hundreds!
Also, for the doors, check out Spurtar Car Door Edge Guard 32ft which is super cheap (usually under $15) and protects against those tight parking lot dings without messing with the aero. Just gotta be careful during the install so it looks clean... maybe? gl! 👍
yo congrats on the new ride!! honestly i totally get the anxiety... i was LITERALLY shaking the first time i parked my IONIQ 6 in a public garage lol. the nose is so low that i kept thinking every tiny pebble was gonna leave a massive scar. i didn't wanna spend thousands on a full wrap cuz that's basically a house down payment, right? so i went the diy route for some parts to save cash.
For your situation, here's what i think is the best bang for your buck without killing those aero vibes:
- XPEL Protection Film Universal Door Sill Guard - seriously, this stuff is a lifesaver for those tight spots. i used it on the door edges too! it's super cheap (like $20-30) and u can barely see it.
- 3M Scotchgard Paint Protection Film Pro Series - instead of a full kit, i just bought a roll and did the front lip and mirrors myself. it's kinda tricky but sooo worth it for the savings.
- Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax - if ur not doing full ppf, this stuff is AMAZING for making the paint slick so stuff just slides off. it's only like $20 at the store.
i guess i learned the hard way that u dont need to protect every single inch... just the high-impact spots!! honestly, just doing the door edges and a bit of the front bumper makes me feel way better when i'm out and about. anyway, good luck with the car, it's seriously such a cool design!! hope that helps a bit 👍
So basically the consensus is that the nose on the IONIQ 6 is LITERALLY a rock magnet lol. To sum up what's been said:
1. PPF is pretty much a must for that low front end.
2. Mud guards help a ton with side spray.
I mean, I went the budget route with my current setup and just did a partial DIY kit on the hood. Honestly, it saved me sooo much cash and still looks decent! Tbh, just watch those curbs cuz that aero lip is loww. gl!
Been using this for years, no complaints
