Which dash cam is best for a Hyundai Kona?

Hey everyone! I recently joined the Kona family with a 2024 Limited edition, and I’m absolutely loving the ride so far. However, after seeing way too many close calls on my daily commute, I’ve decided that a high-quality dash cam is a non-negotiable upgrade. I want that extra peace of mind in case anything happens, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the options and how they fit this specific car.

Since the Kona has a relatively compact windshield and that chunky housing around the rearview mirror (where all the safety sensors live), I’m really worried about finding a camera that doesn't block my view or interfere with the driver-assist features. I’m looking for something discreet—ideally a dual-channel setup (front and rear) so I’m covered from both angles.

I’ve been looking at the VIOFO A129 and some BlackVue models because of their slim profiles, but I’m curious if anyone here has installed them in a Kona. Specifically, I’m wondering about the power source. I’d love to use a hardware kit for parking mode protection, but I’m a little nervous about tapping into the fuse box with all the hybrid/EV electronics if you have those versions. Also, has anyone tried those specialized integrated cameras like Fitcamx that replace the mirror cover for a factory look?

My budget is around $250-$350, including the hardwire kit and a high-endurance SD card. I’m fairly handy, but if the wiring is a nightmare around those side curtain airbags, I might just take it to a pro.

For those of you who have a Kona (OS or SX2), which dash cam did you end up going with, and how was the installation process regarding the trim and sensor housing?

I went through this last year with my Kona, and honestly, the budget was my biggest concern. I was really worried about the sensor housing too! I ended up picking up the 70mai Dash Cam Pro Plus+ A500S Dual Channel along with a Samsung PRO Endurance 128GB microSDXC card. It was super affordable, and the slim design tucked right behind the mirror without blocking anything. Tapping the fuse box felt intimidating, but it was actually pretty straightforward once I found a good YouTube guide. Good luck!

Quick question—are you driving the standard gas 2.0L/1.6T, or did you get the Hybrid or EV version? I ask because the 12V battery management is a bit finicky on the electrified models. Before I suggest a specific setup like the BlackVue DR970X-2CH Plus or the Fitcamx Dash Cam for Hyundai Kona 2024 2025, I want to make sure we don't trip any battery discharge warnings!

Hi there, and congrats on the new ride! I totally get the anxiety—I went through the same thing with my 2024 Kona. I actually started with a bulky unit, but it blocked way too much of that small windshield.

For your situation, I would suggest the VIOFO A229 Plus 2K Dash Cam Front and Rear. It fits perfectly just to the right of that chunky sensor housing without blocking your view.

Here’s what I recommend for the setup:
* **The Cam:** VIOFO A229 Plus 2K Dash Cam Front and Rear (~$210)
* **Hardwire Kit:** VIOFO HK4 Acc Hardwire Kit (~$15)
* **Storage:** SanDisk 256GB MAX Endurance microSDXC Card UHS-I V30 (~$30)

I installed mine myself, but be careful with those side curtain airbags! Make sure to tuck the wire *behind* the airbag, not across it. If you're nervous about the hybrid fuse box, the Fitcamx 4K Dash Cam for Hyundai Kona 2024 2025 (Model B) is actually a great plug-and-play alternative that looks completely factory, though it’s a bit less customizable. Honestly, the VIOFO offers better video quality for the price. Good luck! 🚗

Quick question—before I dive into the safety specifics, are you planning to do the install yourself or take it to a pro? Since you're worried about the side curtain airbags and the complex electronics in the 2024 model, that makes a big difference. In my experience, safety is everything with these new sensor-heavy cars, so I want to make sure I'm giving you the right advice on managing those wires properly!
