Hey everyone! I recently picked up a Jeep Wrangler JL and I’m looking to swap out the stock street tires for something more capable. I’m mostly doing daily driving, but I want to start hitting some moderate trails and beach sand on the weekends. I’m trying to find that perfect balance where I get great off-road traction without deal-breaking road noise or a massive drop in MPG. I’ve been looking at the BFGoodrich KO2s and the Falken Wildpeak AT3W, but I’m torn on which performs better in wet conditions. What are you guys running on your JLs, and which all-terrain tire would you recommend for a mix of highway comfort and weekend grit?
Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, wet traction is a huge safety concern for me too. While the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W is a solid value, I'd also suggest looking at the General Grabber A/TX.
It's usually a bit cheaper than the big brands but performs really well in rain and sand. It's a bit of a conservative pick, but it's very reliable for a daily driver. Just make sure to get a professional alignment after the swap!
+1
For your situation, I've got some thoughts based on running both. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed with the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 in wet conditions; they tend to get a bit slick on greasy pavement once the tread wears down.
Here's how I see the value play:
* Falken Wildpeak A/T3W: This is my top pick for a JL daily driver. The wet traction is significantly better than the BFG due to the silica compound and deep siping. Plus, they usually run about $20-$40 cheaper per tire. Great on sand too!
* BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2: They look iconic and have super tough sidewalls for rocks, but unfortunately, the road noise increases as they age, and the price premium doesn't always feel worth it for a weekend warrior.
I'd definitely go Falken for the best bang-for-your-buck and safety in the rain. Hope this helps!
