I’m looking to upgrade my stock setup, but there are so many options out there. I need something that’s easy to fold back for the summer but still manages to keep the road noise down on the highway. Between Bestop and the factory premium tops, which one actually holds up best against leaks? Any specific recommendations for a 4-door JLU?

Seconding the recommendation above! Twill is definitely the way to go if you want to keep things quiet. Quick tip: if you're looking for a budget-friendly way to get that premium feel, check out the Bestop Trektop NX Glide in Black Twill. It gives you that fastback look and is way easier on the wallet than some factory setups. Just make sure to keep the zippers lubed with Bestop Zipper Cleaner and Lubricant and it'll last you years! ✌️

I went through this last year. I spent weeks geeking out over decibel ratings and hydrostatic head specs before ditching the stock vinyl. Tbh, the technical difference in the 30oz triple-layer acrylic twill is night and day for highway resonance. I ended up installing the Bestop Supertop Ultra in Black Premium Twill on my JLU. It's held up great against heavy rain with zero seepage at the door surrounds. FWIW, the hardware on the Bestop Sunrider for Hardtop in Black Twill is also top-tier if you just want a partial flip-back.

Hi there! I've been running soft tops for years on my Jeeps, so I totally get the struggle! Honestly, just a heads up: be super careful with cheaper off-brand tops... they leak like crazy and the noise is unbearable on the highway!

In my experience, the Bestop Trektop NX Plus Soft Top for Jeep Wrangler JLU is amazing! It’s way easier to flip back than the Mopar Jeep Wrangler JLU Premium Twill Soft Top. The Bestop twill fabric is fantastic for keeping things quiet, almost like a hard top, and it's been rock solid against leaks for me. Good luck!

Honestly, when you look at the market data, a lot of these high-end options are basically coming off the same assembly lines as the OEM stuff. It's kind of a shell game with branding. One thing people usually overlook from a technical standpoint is the 'seal memory' on the JLU's door surrounds. If you’ve had your stock top on for a few years, those rubber gaskets have already compressed to that specific frame. Swapping to a different brand—even a high-end one—can sometimes cause tiny gaps because the new hardware isn't hitting the seals in the exact same spot... it's superrr frustrating to troubleshoot if you get a leak on day one. Also, you gotta be careful with the tensioning systems on the newer frameless designs versus the traditional square frames. From what I've seen in the specs, the framed versions usually distribute the load more evenly across the header bar, which is where most highway noise and whistling starts. If the tension isn't 100% spot on, the fabric will vibrate at high speeds no matter how thick the material is. Tbh, the density of the fabric matters way less than the actual fitment against the A-pillar...

Tbh I tried to save some cash by doing the install myself last spring. I've been a Jeep owner for a long time but I'm still basically a newbie when it comes to wrenching on my own rig, right? I went with a Rugged Ridge Voyager Soft Top because the frameless style seemed easier to handle alone. Honestly, I spent like four hours fighting with the fabric tension and almost gave up. It's a lot harder than it looks on those 10-minute YouTube videos! A couple of things I learned the hard way:
- Wait for a *really* hot day. If you try to stretch that fabric when it's cool out, it’s basically impossible to snap in, you know?
- Maybe get a buddy to help? Trying to line up the door surrounds solo was a nightmare for me. I'm not 100% sure if I got the seals perfect but it hasn't leaked yet... I think? Is it normal for the header bar to be that tight?

Fable Frost, you hit the nail on the head with the DIY stress, that sounds like a total nightmare. Tbh I am in the exact same boat as the original poster though... I have been scouring these threads for like three months trying to find a straight answer on which top actually keeps the noise down without leaking, and I still feel like I am back at square one. Its so frustrating because every time I think I have a winner, someone else posts a horror story. I still cant decide what to buy and it is seriously driving me nuts.
