Need to rig my Gladiator Mojave before a trip in 10 days so its kinda urgent. Torn between the Retrax XR with the Yakima Overhaul system or just going cheap with a BakFlip MX4 and some generic bed rails. Budget is 2k and I need it to fit the Mojave rails without a ton of drilling... which one is actually worth the money?
just be careful with generic rails because i've seen them fail under lateral stress. i once went the cheap route and it nearly tweaked my bed sides... not a vibe. you might want to consider the Rough Country Low Profile Hard Folding Bed Cover with some BillieBars Gladiator Bed Bars. quick tip: make sure to re-torque mounting bolts after the first 50 miles of dirt since they tend to settle.
Quick reply! Seriously look at the Retrax RetraxONE XR Polycarbonate Retractable Bed Cover. It has those T-slots that work perfectly with the Yakima OverHaul HD Truck Bed Rack System. You get 500lbs of static capacity which is amazing for overlanding! Its way more secure than the BakFlip and fits the Mojave rails with zero drilling. It might push your 2k budget slightly but the technical precision is totally worth it!
Honestly, choosing a bed setup for the Mojave is such a headache. I had high hopes for those fancy retractable ones with integrated rails but they were a massive letdown for me. Unfortunately, they tend to rattle like crazy on washboard roads which totally ruins the point of having that smooth Mojave suspension. I think I heard from a buddy that those folding ones arent as good as expected either... the seals always seem to leak right over your gear when it rains. Not sure if it was just a bad batch but my experience with the heavy racks was pretty meh too because theyre just so bulky. IIRC, the weight capacity on the bed sides is kinda sketchy for rough trails. If youre in a rush, just be careful about anything that needs perfect alignment because it never quite fits right the first time anyway.
