Hey everyone! I’ve been driving my Kia Niro EV for a few months now, and while I absolutely love the car, the trunk situation is starting to get a bit chaotic. Since it’s a hatchback, everything seems to slide around whenever I take a corner or hit the brakes. I’m currently dealing with a messy mix of grocery bags, my charging cables, a roadside emergency kit, and some gym gear that just won't stay put.
I’ve been looking at some universal organizers online, but I’m worried about the fit. The Niro EV has that specific floor shape and the sub-trunk compartment, so I want something that doesn't block access to the lower storage area but still maximizes the available space. I’m also curious if anyone has found an option that matches the interior aesthetic well or perhaps a collapsible one for when I need to haul larger items with the seats down.
Does anyone have a specific brand or model of trunk organizer that fits perfectly in the Niro EV without sliding around? I’d love to hear what’s working for you and if there are any specific dimensions I should look for!
For your situation, I'd definitely suggest looking at something that focuses on safety and stability... honestly, the last thing you want is a heavy roadside kit or gym weights flying forward if you have to slam on the brakes!! I'm still kinda new to the Niro world, but I've been worried about things sliding into the sub-trunk area too.
I found the Starling's Car Trunk Organizer Adjustable Straps for around $35 and it's been a lifesaver. It's super budget-friendly and basically stays put because of the non-slip bottom.
* Use the side straps to hook into the Niro's floor anchors so it doesn't tip over.
* It's collapsible, so you can fold it flat if you need to haul bigger stuff.
* The partitions keep my heavy gear separate from groceries.
It feels much SAFER knowing my gear won't move during a sharp turn. Plus, it fits right next to the sub-trunk lid so I can still get to my cables without moving the whole thing. Good luck with the organization!
sooo i totally get the struggle... i actually had a gallon of milk explode in my trunk last year cuz it slid around so much lol. honestly i've tried a few but in my experience the Drive Auto Trunk Organizer for SUV with Straps is the way to go because it has those tie-down straps that actually hook into the Niro's cargo loops so it stays PUT. basically if you want something smaller that fits specifically on one side, Fortem Car Trunk Organizer with Non-Slip Bottom is also solid but the Drive Auto one is kinda better for groceries imo. both are collapsible so you can still get to that sub-trunk floor easily!!
Respectfully, I'd consider another option before buying more gear. Honestly, a budget-friendly DIY cargo net setup or just any basic bins from IKEA or Target work better to save money, right?
So basically the consensus is that the Niro EV's trunk is a total nightmare for sliding stuff, but there are a few ways to tackle it! Reply #1 and #2 really highlighted those heavy-duty organizers with straps, while #3 was more about that budget-friendly DIY life. I totally get the struggle with the sub-trunk access too... in my experience, if you get something too bulky, you're basically locked out of your charging cable storage which is a huge pain lol.
Over the years, I've done a ton of market research on EV cargo management, and honestly, the modular approach usually wins for hatchbacks like ours. I've tried many setups, and while the Drive Auto and Fortem options mentioned earlier are popular, I actually think you should look into some of the collapsible felt-style bins. They look way more "OEM" and match the interior aesthetic better than those rugged nylon ones, plus they're grippy enough to stay put on the carpet without needing aggressive hooks!!
Also, totally agree with Reply #4 about the safety aspect. If you're hauling gym gear, you gotta make sure whatever you get has a solid rubberized bottom or some serious velcro. NGL, I've seen way too many "universal" bins just tip over the second you take a sharp turn in a Niro. Just make sure you measure the width between the wheel wells before buying anything off Amazon, right? Hope that helps you clean up the chaos! gl!
> The Niro EV has that specific floor shape and the sub-trunk compartment, so I want something that doesn't block access to the lower storage area tbh as someone whos had their Niro for a few years now, you really have to think about how often youre actually digging into that lower well. Are you keeping your charging cables down there or do you have a frunk for that? Because that totally changes what kind of footprint you can get away with. In my experience, you should probably just look at whatever WeatherTech has for the Niro. You cant really go wrong with their stuff since it’s usually laser-measured to the car. Basically anything from a brand like that is gonna be way more stable and wont slide around like the cheap fabric ones do. I'm always a bit cautious about heavy gym gear shifting and hitting the plastic trim, so a solid brand is better for the long haul. How heavy is the gear youre usually hauling around?
Finally someone says it. Ive been thinking this for a while but wasnt sure.
Ok adding this to my list of things to try. Thanks for the tip!
yo! Honestly, I totally feel u on the trunk chaos... the Niro EV has such a specific layout that most "universal" bags just end up being a massive pain. For your situation, I would suggest looking into a more modular setup that actually utilizes the floor hooks.
I’ve been using the Starling's Car Trunk Organizer Adjustable Straps for a while now and it’s seriously been a game changer. Basically, the dimensions are roughly 23 x 14 inches, which fits perfectly on one side of the trunk without blocking that sub-floor latch. This is crucial because if u buy one of those massive triple-compartment ones, you're gonna be fighting with it every time u need your charging cables from the bottom deck!!
Here’s why this works so well technically:
- It has these heavy-duty tie-down straps that hook into the Niro's factory metal loops. Literally doesn't move an inch when u take sharp turns.
- It's collapsible, so if u need to fold the seats down for a big IKEA run, it flat-packs in like two seconds.
- If u want something even more rugged, check out the Rola 59001 M.O.V.E. Rigid Base Organizer. It has a hard bottom which is amazing for keeping grocery bags upright, though it's a bit pricier.
tbh, I’d avoid anything with a velcro bottom because the Niro's trunk carpet is kinda high-quality and it'll eventually get all fuzzy and ruined from the grip. Stick to the strap-based systems! Plus, the black finish on the Starlings model matches the interior aesthetic perfectly. gl with the organization! 👍
