Hey everyone! I just picked up a brand new Kia Sorento and I’m absolutely loving the ride so far, but the fishbowl feeling is real. I’m looking to get the windows tinted as soon as possible, both for the sleek look and to help keep the interior cool during the summer. I’ve been doing some reading, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the choices between carbon and ceramic films.
Since the Sorento has those large windows and a panoramic sunroof, I’m particularly concerned about heat rejection and making sure the tint doesn’t interfere with the GPS or cellular signals. I’m leaning toward a ceramic option for the better heat performance, but I’m not sure which brands play best with Kia’s glass. I’m also curious about what percentages you all think look best—I want it to be dark enough for privacy but I don’t want to struggle with visibility at night. My budget is around $400-$600 for the full vehicle.
For those of you with a newer Sorento, which brand and type of tint did you go with, and would you recommend it for balancing style and heat control?
Quick question—which interior color did you get? It actually makes a HUGE difference in how dark the tint looks from the outside. Honestly, I've seen some guys go with 3M and have great results, but you gotta be careful with the installer. I'm a bit of a beginner here but I'd suggest sticking with any high-end ceramic from XPEL or LLumar to avoid signal issues with the Kia tech. Thoughts?
sooo I totally feel u on the fishbowl thing. I actually went through this exact same struggle with my Sorento recently cuz the sun in the summer is literally brutal. i mean, carbon is okay, but it basically just blocks light, not heat. since your budget is $400-$600, you can definitely afford a decent ceramic film which is way better for heat rejection and wont mess with your GPS signal or anything like that. i was worried about visibility too, so i played it safe.
- for your budget, i'd check out 3M Ceramic IR Series Window Film or maybe XPEL Prime XR Ceramic Window Tint. i got quoted around $500 for the whole car.
- if you're worried about night driving, dont go darker than 20% or 35% on the front sides. basically, 35% is the sweet spot for safety and looking sleek imo.
- honestly, ask your shop if they have a deal for the pano sunroof. some guys charge extra, but it's worth it cuz that's where most of the heat comes from.
idk but i'd just be careful with the super cheap shops. if its too cheap, they're probably using generic film that'll bubble in two years. good luck with the new ride! 👍
Can confirm
Nice, didn't know that

Congrats on the new ride!! The Sorento looks absolutely amazing once you get rid of that fishbowl vibe, seriously. I actually looked into doing my own windows with a pre-cut kit to save some cash and learned a ton. If you want to see what actually goes into it, check out some DIY channels on YouTube... its wild how much prep goes into cleaning those big side windows before the film even touches the glass. A few things to watch out for tho:
