I'm seriously losing my mind trying to figure out which sites actually have the best deals on used Kia models because everything I see is overpriced or sold the second I click on it. My old junker finally gave up the ghost last week and I'm stuck sharing one car with my wife which is a total nightmare for getting the kids to school and soccer practice out here in the Chicago suburbs.
Right now I'm mostly bouncing between Autotrader and just scouring Facebook Marketplace but man it's exhausting. Autotrader seems like it's mostly just big dealers with these huge doc fees that they hide until the last minute and Marketplace is just full of scammers or people who dont ever message you back. I'm looking at a 2019 Sorento for 17k on one site but then I see a Sportage with way more miles for the same price on another and I cant tell what a fair deal even looks like anymore.
I really need to stay under 18k and I have to find something by the end of this month or I'm gonna lose my job from all the missed shifts. Is there some hidden site I'm missing or should I just stick to the big ones and keep refreshing? I've heard some people say CarGurus is better for price transparency but I dont know if I trust their great deal badges anymore. Which one should I be spending my time on??
I've tried many sites over the years, and CarGurus is actually decent if you look closely at the price history. It helps avoid those inflated dealer markups. Quick tips:
Honestly, I went through the same headache last year looking for a reliable ride for my family. I ended up sticking with Cars.com and felt pretty happy with the results. Marketplace felt kinda risky tho with all the shady sellers and zero history. Cars.com let me filter specifically for one-owner vehicles which was huge for my peace of mind. I also used CarGurus and while the badges can be a bit much, their price history tool is actually super helpful for seeing if a dealer is dropping prices. After some hunting, I eventually found my Kia Sorento 2018 LX V6 for just under 17k by watching price drops on CarGurus. It works well and the safety tech was exactly what I needed for the kids. If youre in the suburbs, Id say prioritize those two over Facebook. Its just safer knowing youre dealing with real documented inventories... no complaints here.
