I just bought a 2021 Discovery Sport and I am honestly so stressed about getting a roof rack for it. I need to get my kayak to the lake by Friday but I have no idea where to start and I'm scared I'll buy something that doesnt fit or worse, scratches the roof. I was looking at Thule because everyone says they are good but they are so expensive and my budget is really around $250. Then I saw some on Amazon but I dont know if they are safe or if I need those side rail thingies first? My car has a flat roof right now. Is it easy to install or am I gonna need a mechanic? Sorry if this is a stupid question I just dont want my kayak flying off on the highway...
To add to the point above: the SportRack is a solid budget move. If you want something more integrated, look at Brightlines Roof Rack Cross Bars for Land Rover Discovery Sport 2015-2022. They run about $170 and fit the factory mounting points hidden under those plastic strips in your roof ditch.
Since your roof is flat, you'll need a clamp-mount system. For that $250 budget, SportRack SR1002 Complete Roof Rack System is a solid, practical choice. It's way cheaper than Thule but stays sturdy enough for a kayak. Installation is straightforward and you wont need a mechanic. Just make sure the roof's clean before mounting the pads so you dont get scratches. It's a reliable, budget-friendly solution for your trip.
