I just picked up my new Lexus TX 550h+ and I’m loving the space, but now I need a solid hitch-mounted bike rack that won't interfere with the parking sensors or the hands-free liftgate. Since the 550h+ is a bit heavier with the PHEV drivetrain, I’m looking for a platform rack that can securely hold two heavy e-bikes without wobbling at highway speeds. I’ve been looking at the Kuat NV 2.0 and the Thule T2 Pro XTR, but I'm worried about the clearance with the rear bumper design. Does anyone have experience with these or other racks on the TX specifically? I really want something that tilts down easily for trunk access. Which rack offers the best fit and finish for the TX?

Ok so I totally agree with the above! Both those big brands are way overpriced and sometimes have fitment issues with the TX bumper. Ngl, if youre looking for AMAZING value, check out the KAC K2 2-Inch Hitch Mounted Bike Rack. Its basically half the price of a Thule at around $230-260 and handles heavy e-bikes (up to 60lbs each!) like a champ. It tilts down perfectly for trunk access too!! Honestly, why pay $800 when this is just as solid? gl!

Honestly, i feel u on this. I just went through this with my TX and it was kinda a nightmare. For your situation, I would suggest being reallyyy careful because the Kuat NV 2.0 2-Bike Hitch Rack actually sat way too close to my bumper for comfort. I was worried it was gonna scratch the paint every time the car flexed on the highway!!

I ended up trying the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2-Bike Platform Hitch Rack but tbh I had issues with the sensors constantly screaming at me even when it was folded down. It's so annoying. Plus, the 550h+ is heavy, and some of these racks just feel... wobbly? Basically, if you want something that actually fits and won't mess up your liftgate, you gotta check the clearance twice. I'm still not 100% happy with mine, but I guess it works for now. Just watch those sensors!!

Honestly, if youre doing the install yourself, you gotta look at the technical specs of the TX receiver. The depth of the hitch pin hole on these Lexus SUVs can be shallow. To avoid the sensor issues and get that liftgate clearance, Id suggest a DIY modular approach: - RockyMounts GuideRail: This is a beast for heavy e-bikes. Its got a 60lb per tray rating and uses a load-leveraging design that sits further from the bumper than the standard tray racks. The tiered trays help with ground clearance too. - Kuat Pivot v2 (Swing-Away Extension): If you want *zero* liftgate interference, install this first. It swings the entire rack 90 or 180 degrees out of the way. It’s a bit of extra DIY work to get the anti-rattle cam tight, but it solves the trunk access problem completely. Basically, make sure you use a 3/4" socket or a dedicated torque wrench to spec. Most people just hand-tighten the anti-rattle bolt and wonder why it wobbles at highway speeds. Just be mindful of the added leverage on your tongue weight limits with the PHEV drivetrain!

Seconding the recommendation above. Honestly, I had issues with those big brands too—the clearance on the TX is tricky and I hated how much they wobbled. For heavy e-bikes, safety is huge, so you definitely gotta look at the 1UP USA 2-Inch Super Duty Double. It's built like a tank and has more bumper clearance than the Kuat. Plus, it's basically solid aluminum so it won't rust. It's pricey but worth it for the peace of mind imo!

Just sharing my experience: so I went through this last year when I got my PHEV and honestly... it was kind of a mess. I had high hopes for those big brands but I ran into some issues too. Basically, I found that many racks just don't account for the bumper depth on these new SUVs and the weight of e-bikes is NO joke.

I ended up trying a few things because I was so disappointed with the clearance on my first try:

* I eventually tried the 1UP USA Heavy Duty Double bike rack and it felt way more solid than the others.
* I also looked into the RockyMounts GuideRail 2-Bike Hitch Rack because it's rated for 60lbs per bike which is key for those heavy batteries.
* I even checked out the Hollywood Racks Destination E bike rack for electric bikes which is basically built just for heavy PHEV/EV setups.

Everything is so expensive now, so I'm still kinda annoyed I had to swap stuff out, but having that extra clearance is literally everything if you don't want to scratch your new paint lol. Good luck!!
