I'm looking to upgrade to a Lexus SUV that can handle some moderate off-roading on weekends while still being comfortable for daily driving. My family and I enjoy camping trips that sometimes require traversing unpaved forest roads, crossing shallow streams, and handling muddy conditions.
I've been considering the GX and LX models due to their body-on-frame construction, but I'm not sure if the RX or NX with AWD might be sufficient for my needs.
Does anyone have real-world experience taking Lexus SUVs off the beaten path? Which model would you recommend? Any specific year/generation I should target or avoid? How do they compare to traditional off-road vehicles like 4Runners or Land Cruisers?
Thanks for your insights!
Saved for later, ty!
Don't waste your money on an NX or RX for actual off-roading. They're basically glorified crossovers with AWD that will struggle on anything beyond a gravel driveway. If you're serious about off-road capability while keeping Lexus luxury, the GX is your only real option (unless you can afford the LX). My 2017 GX has tackled everything I've thrown at it while being comfortable enough for the daily commute.
