Does anyone use a specific car cover for Lexus RZ?

I recently picked up a new Lexus RZ and I'm absolutely loving the drive, but I’ve run into a bit of a dilemma with my parking situation. Since I don't have a dedicated garage space right now, the car is sitting out in the driveway exposed to the sun and falling debris from a nearby oak tree. I’m really worried about the paint longevity and keeping that panoramic roof clean, so I’m looking for a high-quality car cover.

I’ve looked at some generic SUVs covers, but because of the RZ’s unique aerodynamic shape and that specific rear spoiler design, I’m worried a universal fit will just flap around or scratch the finish. I’m specifically looking for something with a soft inner lining that won't trap moisture, especially since it's an EV and I want to ensure the charging port area remains accessible or at least well-protected. Has anyone found a brand that offers a custom-fit mold specifically for the RZ? I'd prefer something breathable but heavy-duty enough to handle UV rays. Does anyone have a specific brand or model recommendation that fits the RZ perfectly without being a struggle to put on daily?

Honestly, going custom is the only way to protect that RZ paint from oak debris without scratching it up. I’m pretty budget-conscious, so I did a lot of digging on value vs. protection. For a solid mid-range price, Coverking Autobody Armor Custom Car Cover is probably your best bet. It’s got three layers including a soft fleece lining, and it’s actually breathable so you won't trap moisture against the battery/electronics.

If you wanna save a few bucks but still get a glove-like fit, check out the SealSkin Supreme Custom Fit Car Cover. It’s usually a bit cheaper than Coverking but still handles UV rays like a champ. Both of these are MUCH better than those $50 generic SUV covers that basically act like sandpaper when the wind picks up. Just make sure you get the custom mold specifically for the RZ so it accounts for that funky rear spoiler. It makes daily install way easier tbh! Good luck 👍

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, custom is the only way to go. I've been doing this for years and *be careful* with the cheaper stuff—I learned the hard way that if it's even slightly loose, the wind rubs the fabric against the paint like sandpaper. My current setup uses a heavy-duty custom mold and it's basically been a lifesaver for the finish. Just make sure to check that the lining is actually breathable so you dont trap heat or moisture against the battery area!! 👍

Curious about one thing: are you planning on keeping the RZ plugged in while the cover is actually on? I've been dealing with outdoor parking for like 15 years now and that detail is a total game-changer for EVs.

Before I give full advice, I'd honestly suggest just looking at brands like Covercraft or maybe WeatherShield. You basically can't go wrong with their custom-fit lines because they use actual laser-measured patterns for the RZ's weird spoiler. But yeah, if you're charging under the cover, you gotta be REALY careful about heat buildup and moisture trapping around the port. Some of those heavy-duty materials don't breathe as well as they claim, and I've seen clear coats get hazy because of it. Lmk about the charging situation and I can tell you which material holds up best over the long haul! 👍

Honestly, I feel you on that oak tree struggle—those things are a nightmare for paint! I've been in that exact spot with my current setup since I don't have a garage either. Over the years, I've tried many different options and found that generic covers basically just ruin the clear coat because they don't fit the lines right and just flap in the wind.

In my experience, you gotta go with a custom-fit brand like Covercraft or SealSkin. For my RZ, I ended up getting a custom one that has:
* A super soft fleece lining (huge for avoiding those micro-scratches)
* Breathable fabric so moisture doesnt get trapped and mess with the electronics
* Perfect mirror pockets and a cut that actually accounts for that weird rear spoiler shape

It was a bit more expensive—around $300 iirc—but compared to the long-term cost of a paint correction or dealing with sap, it's totally worth it. It’s pretty easy to throw on every night too. Definitely look for one with a charging port flap if you can, it makes life sooo much easier. Good luck with the new ride! 👍

Re: "Helpful thread 👍"

  • Totally agree. I am just catching up on this thread now and wanted to chime in because I have been through the ringer with car covers before. I am still kinda new to the whole EV world, but I had a real nightmare with my last SUV. I bought a really thick cover thinking more layers meant more protection, but I didnt think about the practical side of it.
  • You really gotta be careful about the paint being 100% clean. If there is even a little dust from that oak tree on the RZ when you slide the cover on, it acts like sandpaper. I ruined the hood of my old car that way because I was lazy.
  • Also, make sure you have a plan for where the cover goes when it is wet. If it rains and you have to leave, you end up with a soaking wet, heavy mess in your trunk and that is honestly the worst. I am curious tho, are you planning to take this thing off every single morning? Because if you are using it daily, the weight and the way it folds is gonna be way more important than the actual material thickness. My first setup was so heavy I basically gave up using it after a week...
