I’m taking my new RX 450h+ into the mountains this season and want to be fully prepared for the snow and ice. Beyond a good set of winter tires, are there specific floor liners or charging cable protectors you recommend for freezing temps? I’m particularly worried about keeping the hybrid battery efficient in the cold. What are your must-have winter essentials?

Ok so I've been driving Lexus hybrids in the mountains for years and I'm honestly super happy with how the 450h+ handles the cold. The biggest thing for that battery efficiency is basically just keeping it plugged in whenever you can—it helps keep things from getting too sluggish in freezing temps. For the interior, I lowkey think you'll regret not having heavy-duty mats because the snow/salt slush is literally the worst for the carpet.

Here's what I recommend:

honestly, if ur looking to save some cash and keep the 450h+ efficient, the best trick is totally free... just lean on the seat and steering wheel heaters instead of cranking the cabin heat. it makes a massive difference in battery drain because heating the air is such a power hog on these plug-ins. i mean, its basically a diy range boost lol. for a diy winter prep, i always do my own door seal treatment so they dont stick. you dont need a pro detailer for this. i usually use a bit of Sonax GummiPfleger or even just a cheap tube of silicone grease from the hardware store. it keeps the rubber from freezing together after a snowstorm which is a total nightmare. some other budget ideas:

honestly, cold temps basically slow down ion movement in the battery, right? so safety is HUGE if the 12v system struggles. im not 100% sure but i think iirc some owners carry a portable lithium jump pack just in case it gets too sluggish.

* get a heavy-duty ice scraper
* grab a windshield frost cover
