I am honestly so fed up with the clearance on my GX460. I took it out near Moab last weekend and those factory side steps just keep getting snagged on every little rock and it is driving me crazy because I feel like I'm gonna rip the whole trim off. I really want to use this thing for more than just grocery runs but the stock setup is just not cutting it for the trails I want to hit. I have about $3k saved up to finally fix this mess before my next trip in three weeks. What are the best off-road accessories for a Lexus GX that I should prioritize first? Looking for sliders or maybe a lift...

Building on the earlier suggestion, im really satisfied with using Bilstein 5100 Series Height Adjustable Shocks since they dont break the bank. You get the height you need for Moab without the crazy price tag of a full custom setup. I also recommend getting Falken Wildpeak A/T4W 265/70R17 Tires for better grip. Tbh, doing the labor yourself is the ultimate way to keep costs down.

Honestly, im super satisfied with my Westcott Designs GX460 Rock Sliders. Theyre built like tanks compared to the lighter options out there. Ngl, those factory steps are a total liability. I also run the Old Man Emu GX460 2 Inch Lift Kit cuz its way more reliable for heavy trail work than cheap spacers. OME is stiff but keeps you safe. Westcotts fitment is perfect, no complaints here.

Building on the earlier suggestion about how those steps are a total liability, I am right there with you. Honestly its ridiculous that we even have to deal with this on a GX. I have the exact same setup and it drives me crazy every time I head out... I am constantly paranoid im gonna get high-centered or worse, rip a hole in the body because of some cheap plastic trim hanging too low.

  • prices for basic protection are getting completely out of hand lately
  • shipping times for simple parts are a total joke
  • half the stuff on the market feels like itll bend the first time it hits a real rock Its such a scam that these rigs are marketed as off-road beasts when the factory trim is this fragile. In my experience, it just feels like the manufacturers dont care about actual trail reliability anymore. Just venting because its so frustrating trying to build something safe without getting ripped off by these inflated prices.
