Which charging accessories are best for the Lexus NX PHEV?

I recently took delivery of my Lexus NX 450h+ and I’m absolutely loving the electric range! However, the standard Level 1 cable is a bit slow for my daily needs, so I’m looking to upgrade my home setup. Since the NX has a 6.6 kW onboard charger, I want to find a Level 2 charger that maximizes that speed without being total overkill. Are you guys using a hardwired unit like the ChargePoint or just a portable 240V cable? I’m also curious if anyone has found a good cable organizer that fits the Lexus aesthetic. What specific brands or accessories have you found work best for keeping your NX topped up efficiently?

In my experience, you dont need to overspend here. Since the NX maxes at 6.6 kW, a 32A or 40A unit is plenty. I’d suggest the Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger because it’s built like a tank and way cheaper than hardwired options. If u want portability, the Lectron 240V 40 Amp Level 2 EV Charger is great. For a clean look, I use the BougeRV EV Charger Cable Organizer to keep things tidy. Seriously, dont pay for features you wont use! Cheers.

Sooo congrats on the new ride!! I've had my NX 450h+ for about a year now and honestly, I'm still so satisfied with it. I totally get the struggle with the standard cable tho... it basically takes a lifetime to charge. Since the NX maxes out at 6.6 kW, you basically need a 32-amp charger to hit that peak speed.

I actually started with a portable Lectron NEMA 14-50 Level 2 EV Charger (240V, 32 Amp) because it was easy, but I eventually moved to the ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 EV Charger hardwired. It looks way sleeker in the garage and the app is actually pretty cool for tracking juice. For the cable mess, I use the Lectron EV Charger Nozzle Holster and Cable Organizer which keeps things tidy and fits the vibe. I mean, ur gonna love the 2.5 hour charge time compared to like... 12 hours? It's a huge difference lol. Hope that helps ur setup!! peace

yo, congrats on the new Lexus!! honestly, the electric range is a total game changer. For your situation, I would suggest looking at the Emporia Level 2 EV Charger (48 Amp). I know others mentioned the big names, but this one is way more budget-friendly and still has a great app to track costs. technically you only need 32A for that 6.6 kW charger, so dont feel like you gotta overspend on a massive setup unless your planning for a full EV later.

be careful with those super cheap portable cables on amazon... I've heard some horror stories about them getting way too hot. If you want something sleek for the garage, i actually use the Wallbox Pulsar Plus Level 2 EV Charger because it's tiny and looks high-end. Plus, a simple BougeRV EV Charger Cable Hook keeps everything looking clean without ruining the Lexus vibe. ngl, it's basically the best value setup i've found. gl!

I've been diving deep into the technical specs since I got mine yesterday and tbh, the biggest thing I've learned is that it’s not just about the charger itself, it’s the wiring behind the wall! Like, even if you’re a DIY fan, you gotta be really careful about the 'continuous load' rules.

Here are a few things I found that might help you avoid a major headache:
- **Check your local utility website:** A lot of power companies have 'marketplace' sections or rebate programs that basically pay for the install if you use a specific type of setup.
- **The 80% Rule:** Since EV charging is a continuous load, you technically need a breaker that is 125% of the load. So for our 32A charging, you need a 40A breaker. If you DIY a 32A breaker, it’s gonna trip constantly or get way too hot.
- **Permit sites:** Check your city’s online permit portal. Sometimes they have specific DIY guides for EVSE installs that show exactly what code you need to follow so you don't void your home insurance.

Has anyone else looked into their panel capacity before installing? I'm kinda worried about my 100A service holding up if the AC and the Lexus are both drawing power at the same time. Is it worth getting a load shedder or should I just call a pro?

I'd actually suggest a different approach. Skip the portable 240V cables. Ngl, they’re often a HUGE safety risk if ur not careful. I’d definitely avoid the plug-in units and go hardwired instead. Those NEMA outlets aren't really designed for daily high-load cycles and can actually melt over time... especially the cheap ones. Since the Lexus NX only pulls 32A, just get a solid, UL-listed hardwired setup and call it a day!

Finally someone says it. Ive been thinking this for a while but wasnt sure.
