Just picked up my new CX-70 and I’m terrified of getting rock chips on that beautiful front end! I’m looking for a high-quality PPF that offers great clarity and self-healing properties. Should I go with Xpel Ultimate Plus, SunTek, or maybe 3M? What brands have you found look the best on Mazda’s paint? Need advice before I book an installer!

so basically i was super nervous about my paint too and honestly Xpel Ultimate Plus is a solid choice because it's thick but maybe check out SunTek Reaction cuz it has a built-in ceramic coating tho. i would suggest asking about the *warranty* first!!

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, ur totally right that the installer is the real MVP here. Since ur worried about cost tho, maybe look into LLumar Platinum Extra or Avery Dennison Supreme Protective Design Film. They're usually a bit cheaper than the big names but *amazing* quality. Seriously, just doing a partial front kit instead of the whole car can save u like $500-800!! Worth it imo for that CX-70 paint. gl!

So i basically got the premium setup on my last ride and it was *amazing* for years!! Honestly, the installer matters more than the brand name i think. gl!

Honestly, after years in the detailing world, I've seen it all and for a beast like the CX-70, you gotta prioritize safety! I’ve been using SunTek for ages and it's basically bulletproof against high-speed impacts. Just get any self-healing film from SunTek and you'll be set. I mean, the impact resistance is actually insane... literally saved my front end so many times!! Trust me, sticking with a big name like that or 3M ensures your paint stays MINT. gl!

Sooo I went through this exact same headache last year when I got my new ride, and honestly, the market research phase is basically a full-time job lol. I spent weeks comparing specs because I'm kinda obsessive about my paint. While everyone usually points toward Xpel Ultimate Plus or SunTek Reaction, I actually ended up looking at some of the newer players like STEK DYNOshield after seeing how it held up on a buddy's car.

What really stood out during my research was the difference in top coats. I noticed some films have a much higher gloss levels which is HUGE for Mazda's Soul Red or any of their deep metallic finishes, you know? I found that SunTek Ultra had a slightly more "natural" orange peel texture that matched the factory paint better than the super-thick films. On the flip side, after looking at long-term data for 3M Scotchgard Pro Series, it’s seriously impressive how they've improved their yellowing resistance over the years. Basically, it comes down to whether you want the ultimate thickest protection or the most invisible finish.

Quick tip: prioritize the film's hydrophobic properties if you hate washing your car as much as I do.

I eventually went with a full front-end wrap and don't regret it at all... literally saved me from a massive gravel spray on the highway two months in. It’s all about finding that balance between clarity and durability, right? Good luck with the CX-70, it's such a gorgeous car!! Cheers.

Late to the party here but I've had my current setup on my daily driver for like 4 years now and honestly, the long-term stuff is what surprised me. 1. The edges are basically where all the dirt lives now lol. I didn't realize that over time, the seams would start to show a little bit of a dark line from road grime and wax buildup. It's not super noticeable from far away but it's there.
2. I'm still not 100% sure if I'm even washing it right? Like, I use a special soap but I'm always terrified a high-pressure hose is gonna peel the whole thing off if I get too close to a corner. Does anyone else get that anxiety? 3. Bird poop is still the enemy! I honestly thought the film would make the car basically bulletproof, but I left some on for a day in the hot sun and it definitely left a faint etch that didn't fully "heal" away. It definitely saved my front end from some nasty rocks on the highway though, so I'm glad I did it, but the maintenance was a bit of a learning curve for me!
