I recently joined the CX-90 PHEV club and I’m absolutely loving the drive, but I quickly realized the stock Level 1 charger isn't cutting it for my daily commute. I’m looking to upgrade to a Level 2 home station—any favorites that are reliable and easy to install? I’m also looking for utility recommendations, specifically high-quality cargo liners that fit perfectly with the third row up or down. Since I’m new to the plug-in world, are there any specific cable organizers or public charging adapters you’d consider essential for this SUV? I’d love to hear what you guys have added to your setup to make life easier. What are your top 'must-have' accessories for the CX-90?
tbh I spent weeks nerdin out over electrical loads before I finally upgraded. For your setup, I highkey recommend the ChargePoint Home Flex EV Charger because it’s super flexible with amperage settings—perfect if ur electrical panel is tight on space. The CX-90's onboard charger maxes out around 7.4 kW anyway, so you don't need a crazy 80-amp setup, but having a UL-listed station is non-negotiable for safety. For the back, I grabbed the TuxMat Mazda CX-90 Cargo Liner and it’s been a game changer; the fit is literal perfection even with the third row down. Lesson learned: definitely invest in a wall-mounted BougeRV J1772 Cable Dock too. Keeping the cable coiled properly prevents internal wire fatigue over time. Works well and looks clean. gl!
sooo before I give advice, quick question: are you planning to hardwire the charger or use a NEMA 14-50 outlet? it reallyyy impacts the install cost. honestly, dont overspend on fancy wifi features. check out the Emporia Level 2 EV Charger 48 Amp for a solid budget pick. also, do you have captain chairs or the bench? that changes which cargo liners fit best! lmk
Same setup here, love it
hey, welcome to the club! honestly, i totally get it... that stock charger is basically useless if u actually wanna drive electric daily. i would suggest being super careful with those cheap-o chargers on amazon tho. safety is key with high voltage, so make sure to look for UL certification.
Here's what i recommend for a budget-friendly setup:
- Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger 40 Amp: i mean, it's usually around $350 and it's literally built like a tank. it's very reliable and simple to use (at least thats what worked for me).
- Mazda CX-90 All-Weather Cargo Tray with Seatback Protection: definitely go OEM here. it's usually around $100-120 and it fits the split folding seats perfectly, which aftermarket ones often mess up.
- Lectron J1772 to Tesla Charging Adapter 48 Amp: keep this in the trunk for tesla destination chargers, but just be careful... you cant use superchargers with this!
also, check your local power company... they might offer a rebate that makes the charger almost free. gl! 👍
