I just took delivery of a brand new Mercedes S-Class in Obsidian Black, and the paint looks incredible. I really want to protect that deep, mirror-like finish before any swirl marks or light scratches start showing up. Since it's a larger car, I'm looking for a DIY-friendly ceramic coating kit that offers long-lasting hydrophobicity and high gloss. I've been researching brands like Gyeon and CarPro, but I’m worried about the application process on such a high-end clear coat. Does anyone have experience with specific kits that work well with Mercedes factory paint? I’m looking for something that lasts at least 2 years. Which ceramic coating kit would you recommend for the best balance of protection and shine?

Oh man, congrats on the new S-Class! Obsidian Black is literally the best color but it’s sooo stressful to keep perfect. Honestly, I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I was terrified of messing up my paint too. Before you dive in, quick question: are you planning to do a full machine polish first? Even on a brand new car, the dealer usually leaves light marring that you really gotta clear out before coating! Also, do you have a garage to keep it in while it cures??

Sooo I went through this exact same headache last year with my black car... honestly it was a total nightmare at first.

1. I spent way too much on a fancy kit that was basically impossible to level out properly.
2. The high-end clear coat on these cars is actually really tricky because it's so hard; if you high-spot it, you're literally polishing for hours to fix it.
3. Unfortunately, the kit I used didn't even last 18 months despite the "5-year" claim, which was super disappointing given the price tag.

But yeah, basically I learned that prep is everything... the coating is only as good as the polish underneath!
