I recently took delivery of my Mercedes EQS, and with winter just around the corner, I’m getting a bit anxious about finding the right set of tires. Since this car is quite heavy and has that instant electric torque, I want to make sure I’m choosing something that can handle icy patches and deep snow without compromising too much on the quiet cabin experience I love. I've been looking at a few options like the Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 SUV or perhaps something from Bridgestone’s Blizzak line, but I’m worried about how they might impact my range. Living in a region with pretty harsh winters, safety is my top priority, but I’d also prefer a tire that doesn’t create excessive road noise on clear highway stretches. Has anyone here already fitted winter tires on their EQS? I’m particularly curious if you went with a staggered setup or a square fitment, and if you noticed a significant drop in your miles per kWh once the temperature dipped. What are the best winter tires you’ve found that balance grip, range, and noise for the EQS?

I mean, i feel u on the anxiety! When I first got my EQS, I was worried the weight would make it a literal sled on ice. Honestly, I went with a square setup on nineteen-inch rims instead of the staggered twenty-ones it came with. It makes a huge difference in deep snow, and basically saved my range cuz the smaller wheels are way more efficient. Range dropped maybe 15% in freezing temps, but thats mostly the heater, not just the rubber. Just make sure to get an EV-specific tire... the extra sidewall reinforcement is CRITICAL for these heavy beasts. Good luck tho!
Commenting to find later
Sooo I went through this exact same panic last year with my EQS... ngl the weight of this car is no joke when things get icy!! I basically spent weeks researching cuz I was terrified of sliding that heavy beast into a curb. I ended up going with the Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 SUV 265/40R21 and honestly, it was the best decision for my peace of mind. I stuck with a square setup to make rotations easier, and while my range definitely took a hit once it dropped below freezing—like maybe 15-20% less—the safety factor was worth it. They're surprisingly quiet on the highway too, which was a huge relief cuz I didn't wanna lose that silent cabin vibe. Just be careful with that instant torque on the slushy stuff tho!! gl!

Story time: I went through this last year with my EQS and I honestly had the same exact worries. I'm pretty new to the whole EV thing, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting money on tires that would kill my range. I ended up looking at a few different brands like Michelin and Bridgestone to see what made sense for my wallet. Basically, I decided to go with a square setup instead of staggered because it was cheaper and let me rotate them to save on long-term costs.
I was sooo worried about the noise, but honestly, the set I got is super quiet and I'm really happy with how it feels on the highway. I did notice my miles per kWh dropped a bit when it got REALLY cold, but idk if that was the tires or just the battery hating the freezing temps. Quick question tho, are you mostly driving on plowed city roads or are you dealing with unplowed country lanes?? That might change which direction you wanna go with the tread pattern!
Would love to know this too
