I’ve been driving my W204 C-Class for a few years now, and while I still love the car, the interior is starting to feel a bit dated at night. I’m really eyeing those vibrant 64-color ambient lighting setups found in the newer models, but I’m confused about which kits actually fit the older cabins. I’m looking for an upgrade that looks OEM rather than a cheap, messy LED strip. Ideally, I’d love something that integrates with the factory COMAND screen or the rotary knob for switching colors. Has anyone here successfully installed the illuminated turbine air vents or door fiber optics? I'm worried about the wiring complexity and whether I’ll need to do any coding. Which specific brands or kits offer the best plug-and-play experience for these older models?
Seconding the recommendation above regarding the MBHouse kit, it's definitely the cleanest way to go. But honestly, you might want to consider the Enthusiast Brand W204 Ambient Lighting Kit with NTG 4.5 Integration vs the CKM Car Design W204 64-Color Ambient Light Set.
I've tested both and here's the deal:
- Enthusiast Brand: Super stable, uses the factory knob, but basically zero instructions lol.
- CKM Design: More expensive but their CKM Car Design W204 Illuminated Turbine Vents are literally the best quality ones out there.
Just be careful with the wiring behind the door panels, it's a tight squeeze! gl!
Seconding the recommendation above regarding MBHouse W204 Ambient Lighting Integration Kit because going through the NTG 4.5 system is way cleaner than using some random remote.
tbh, if youre looking for the best bang for your buck while keeping that OEM look, I'd also check out the Road Top W204 64-color Ambient Light Kit. In my experience, it's a solid budget alternative that still integrates with the steering wheel buttons for color switching, so you dont have to mess with the dash too much.
One thing though... if you're doing the W204 LED Illuminated Turbine Air Vents, just be ready for a bit of a struggle with the wiring behind the center stack. It's tight back there! Basically, just take your time and maybe grab some Tesa 51608 Felt Harness Tape to wrap the new wires so you dont get any annoying rattles later on. GL!
Respectfully, I'd consider another option because the DMP kits can be a total pain to integrate with older COMAND units without flickering. Personally, I had a much better experience with the MBHouse W204 Ambient Lighting Integration Kit. It's actually designed for the NTG 4.5 system, so you control everything through the factory rotary knob! I mean, it basically feels like it came from the factory. The fiber optics are SUPER high quality too, so you don't get those tacky hotspots you see on cheap strips. Definitely worth looking into if you want that true OEM+ vibe without messy wiring!

sooo i totally get the struggle cuz the W204 interior is SOLID but definitely looks old school at night. honestly i found that the DMP Car Design W204 Ambient Lighting Kit 64-color is the best way to go if you want that OEM look without spending a fortune. i installed mine for about $150 and it actually integrates with the steering wheel buttons to swap colors!! basically i saved money by skipping the turbine vents and just did the door/dash strips and it looks highkey factory. gl!
To add to the point above: I honestly have to disagree with the focus on those expensive integration modules. In my experience, the software on those NTG-integrated kits can be buggy and often lags when you're actually driving. I have found that a cleaner, more reliable DIY route is to use high-quality standalone components that do not mess with the factory CAN bus.
