Hey everyone! I’m finally ready to pull the trigger on a new exhaust for my Evo, but I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the options out there. I’m looking for a system that provides the best performance gains without making the car unbearable to drive on the highway.
Right now, I’m stuck between going for a full titanium setup like the Tomei Expreme Ti for those incredible weight savings, or sticking with a high-quality stainless steel option like the Invidia N1 or HKS Hi-Power. I'm definitely looking for a full 3-inch cat-back system to help with exhaust flow since I plan on pushing more boost later this year. My main concern is the 'drone' factor—I want that iconic, aggressive 4G63 rumble when I’m wide open, but I’d love to be able to actually hear myself think while cruising at 70 mph.
Does anyone have experience with these specific setups on a daily driver? Specifically, which one offers the best ground clearance and build quality for the price? I’d love to hear what you guys are running on your builds and if you noticed a significant difference in throttle response or spool-up time after the install.
Just sharing my experience: I went through this exact same struggle last year and learned the hard way that a straight pipe setup is a nightmare for daily driving. I ended up swapping to the ETS Mitsubishi Evo X Extreme Edition Cat-Back Exhaust but eventually settled on the Fujitsubo RM-01A Stainless Steel Exhaust System because the build quality and ground clearance are honestly unmatched for a 3-inch setup. Watch out for cheap thin-walled piping though; it'll resonate like crazy and make highway cruising MISERABLE even if it looks good on paper!
Honestly, I've had issues with the cheaper 3-inch setups being way too loud. If you're budget-conscious but want quality, check out the Tanabe Revel Medallion Touring Exhaust for Mitsubishi Evo. It's surprisingly quiet for a full 3-inch system and has better ground clearance than the N1. In my opinion, it's the best way to keep that 4G63 rumble without the headache-inducing drone on long commutes. 🚗
In my experience, you're looking at a classic Evo dilemma! I've run both styles on my VIII, and honestly, if you're worried about drone, stay far away from the Tomei Expreme Ti Titanium Cat-Back Exhaust. It sounds absolutely insane at wide open throttle—pure 4G63 bliss—but the highway drone is brutal for a daily.
I eventually switched to the HKS Hi-Power Stainless Steel Exhaust System and it was a total game-changer. It still gives you that deep, aggressive rumble without the ear-splitting resonance at 70 mph. The build quality is top-notch, and the ground clearance is much better for daily driving than the Invidia N1 Cat-Back Exhaust, which can sit a bit low. I definitely noticed a quicker spool-up after moving to a full 3-inch setup. If you want the best balance of performance and sanity, the HKS is the way to go! Good luck with the build!
