Are OEM or aftermarket cargo organizers better for the Nissan Murano?

I’m looking to tidy up the trunk of my Nissan Murano but can't decide between the official Nissan divider or a generic aftermarket brand. I’m worried about the fitment with the Murano's unique floor shape and whether the OEM price tag is actually worth the quality. Has anyone found a specific aftermarket model that fits perfectly without sliding around?

Quick question - what are you actually hauling? Honestly, watch out for aftermarket bins that block the spare tire floor panel, cuz thats a huge safety risk in an emergency, you know?

Honestly, I’ve been through like three different setups in my Murano before I finally found a groove that worked for me. The biggest issue I found wasn't just the sliding—it was the fact that the Murano’s floor is actually slightly angled toward the bumper, so everything naturally wants to pile up against the liftgate. I ended up ditching the bulky boxes and went with a Starling's Car Trunk Organizer because it actually came with these heavy-duty adjustable straps that hook directly into the factory D-rings in the corners of our trunks. Here is what I learned from my trial and error: - **D-Ring Integration:** If you don't use those metal loops in the trunk floor (at least on my 2021 model), any aftermarket bin is basically gonna be a projectile if you have to slam on the brakes. - **Side-Wall Rigidity:** Some generic ones are basically just bags that collapse on themselves. You want something with reinforced base plates so it keeps its shape even when it's half-empty.
- **Flexibility:** I reallyyy love having something that can fold down to one compartment size. Sometimes you need that extra floor space for a big grocery run or a Costco trip, and the OEM divider is kind of a pain to store when you aren't using it. It basically solved my sliding groceries problem without that crazy OEM markup!

Basically, we have a split between the OEM or bust crowd and the aftermarket with straps group. After messing with cargo setups for over a decade, I've realized the Murano's carpet is the real enemy because it's way too slick for standard velcro to grab onto. ^ This. Also, if you want that OEM stability without the three-figure price tag, I've found a few tricks. Over the years, I've seen the expensive dealer stuff fail just as fast as the cheap stuff if you overload it. Honestly, you don't need to spend 150 bucks for a tidy trunk.

  • Look for organizers with rubberized feet on the bottom instead of just velcro.
  • Make sure the straps are long enough to reach the D-rings near the seat backs.
  • Keep it under 11 inches high if you ever plan on using the cargo cover. I eventually settled on the Fortem Car Trunk Organizer Collapsible because it's usually under 30 bucks and has a solid base that doesn't sag. Saves you enough cash to buy a decent WeatherTech Cargo Liner which is a way better investment for protecting the floor in the long run imo.

For your situation, I'd say you gotta be careful with the generic stuff cuz the Murano's trunk floor is definitely a bit wierd. I tried a cheap aftermarket brand first, and it literally slid around every time I hit a corner. So annoying lol.

I eventually bit the bullet and got the official Nissan divider. Honestly?? It's kinda pricey, but the fitment is basically perfect.

Here’s what I noticed:
- The OEM one hooks in way better so it doesn't move.
- Aftermarket bins are cheaper (like $30-50), but they dont always sit flush.
- If you go aftermarket, make sure to get one with Velcro on the bottom to help it stick to the carpet.

Tbh, if you want it to look CLEAN, just go OEM. If you're tryna save cash, look for a generic one that has adjustable dividers. Good luck tho!!

Soooo I actually just went through this whole dilemma last month! I was looking at that official divider from Nissan and honestly, the price tag almost made me faint lol. I'm all about saving cash where I can, so I tried a cheaper route first. I grabbed the Drive Auto Car Trunk Organizer because it was like a fraction of the price of the OEM one.

In my experience, you definitely gotta look for something with those tie-down straps! Since the Murano's floor is kinda sloped and slick, those straps are basically a lifesaver for keeping things from sliding around when you're turning. It's not a "perfect" molded fit like the Nissan one, but for the money saved? It's AMAZING. Plus, it's collapsible if you need to haul bigger stuff. Honestly, unless you really love the look of the factory plastic, I'd say save your money and go aftermarket—just make sure it has grip on the bottom!! gl!

Hmm, I've had a different experience. Performance-wise, a big bin is actually a nightmare. If you're taking turns even slightly fast, that weight shift is *noticeable* and throws off the Murano's balance.

* Aftermarket stuff: Usually slides, ruining your lateral stability.
* OEM: Fits better but adds clunky bulk you don't need.

Honestly, I'm way more satisfied with a low-profile rubber mat and simple tie-down straps. Keeps the center of gravity low and the car feels way more planted! gl!

Ok so, I've had my Murano for five years and tbh, I've had a different experience than the others. Everyone's suggesting cheap bins, but if you're keeping the car LONG-TERM, aftermarket stuff is honestly a headache. After a year, the mesh on the cheaper ones usually sags and looks like trash.

I actually suggest a different approach—skip the generic stuff and grab the Nissan Murano Genuine OEM Cargo Organizer T99C1-5AA0A. Yeah, it's pricier, but it's the only one that stays put without using awkward velcro that ruins your carpet. If you want a cheaper alternative that doesn't slide, the Rola 59001 M.O.V.E. Rigid Base Trunk Organizer is the only aftermarket one I've found with enough weight to actually stay in place on that weird floor. Cheap organizers are basically a waste of money imo.
