Any recommendations for a custom-fit sunshade for the Porsche Macan?

Hey everyone! I recently picked up a Porsche Macan and with the summer heat starting to kick in, I’m getting a bit worried about the interior. The dash and leather seats get incredibly hot after sitting outside for just an hour, and I really want to protect the cabin from long-term UV damage.

I tried using a generic 'one-size-fits-all' sunshade I had laying around in the garage, but it’s a total mess. It leaves massive gaps on the sides and constantly bumps into the large sensor and camera housing behind the rearview mirror, which makes it sit awkwardly. I’m looking for something that offers a truly snug, edge-to-edge fit that looks like it actually belongs in a Porsche.

I’ve been eyeing the official Porsche Tequipment shade, but I’ve also seen brands like Covercraft and WeatherTech mentioned in other car groups. I’m specifically curious about how easy these are to fold up and store when I have a passenger, as I don’t want something overly bulky taking up space in the back. Does anyone have a specific brand they swear by that clears the mirror housing perfectly and keeps the cabin noticeably cooler?

Honestly, avoid the cheap folding wire ones because they basically cook your dash. For your situation, I would suggest going with the Covercraft. I spent $100 on the official Porsche one and it was unfortunately way too stiff... like actually hard to fold with a passenger in the car. The Covercraft fits the mirror sensor perfectly, but yeah, it is a bit bulky to store. Worth it for the cooling tho!!

Sooo, you definitely need to think about the heat rejection properties rather than just the fit, though I get why that mirror housing is a pain. For a Macan, the clearance around that sensor cluster is really tight. Basically, if you want that edge-to-edge look without the bulk of a hard-folding board, I'd look at the WeatherTech Custom Fit SunShade for Porsche Macan.

I'm pretty sure it's the best value proposition right now. It's around $60, so it's cheaper than the official Porsche one, and it's actually reversible! It has a silver side for summer to reflect heat and a black side for winter to help trap it if you're in a cold climate. In my experience, the roll-up design is way more forgiving than the stiff folding ones when you have someone in the passenger seat. You can just toss it in the footwell or behind the seat way easier than a giant accordion style board.

Also, if you want to go a bit more high-end but avoid the stiff Porsche Tequipment version, check out the HeatShield Custom Fit Sunshade for Porsche Macan. They use a material that feels a bit more premium and the fitment around the rearview mirror is LITERALLY perfect. It stays up with just the sun visors and doesn't leave those annoying gaps on the pillars. Honestly, both are solid, but the WeatherTech is probably the most practical for daily use. Hope that helps you keep the cabin cool!! 👍

Curious about one thing: are you looking for something that folds into a small circle or the accordion-style ones? Since the other guys mentioned the rigid boards, I've noticed the market basically splits between the heavy thermal types and the spring-wire ones.

I've tested a few and HeatShield Custom Fit Sunshade is actually a solid middle ground compared to the WeatherTech SunShade... it's a bit more flexible. Does your Macan have the upgraded insulated glass option tho? That'll help me narrow down if you need high-spec IR rejection or just a basic fit.

So basically the consensus is that the OEM Porsche shade is a bit of a brick to handle, while the other custom options can be hit or miss on bulk. Honestly, in my experience after owning several high-end SUVs over the years, you’re basically choosing between a rigid board or a roll-up style.

If you want the best value without the Porsche tax, WeatherTech is usually the way to go because their stuff is indestructible and fits like a glove around that sensor cluster. I've tried many over the years and the roll-up ones are way easier to shove between the seat and console when you have a passenger. NGL, the folding ones like the official one or other stiff brands are a TOTAL pain in the Macan’s tight cabin. Just get any custom-fit roll-up from a reputable brand like WeatherTech and you'll be set for way less cash. Good luck!!

Sooo, +1 to what was said earlier about those stiff boards. They're literally a safety hazard if they slip while you're driving! I'd be careful with anything too rigid because if it's not secured, it can mess with the sensor calibration in that mirror housing. I honestly suggest looking at HeatShield—their stuff is way more flexible and actually rolls up, so it wont take up your passenger's legroom. Safety first, right? 👍

TL;DR: The thread basically highlights a trade-off between the superior insulation of rigid boards like Covercraft and the storage convenience of roll-up styles like HeatShield or WeatherTech. One technical detail that hasn't really been touched on is the actual depth of the sensor housing (especially if you have the Lane Keep Assist or PDLS+ camera array). I've found that some shades claim a custom fit but the material is too thick to actually slide into the tight gap between the windshield and the camera shroud. If it doesnt slide in, you get those light leaks you were worried about. I would suggest looking at the Coverking Custom Sunshield. It uses a triple-laminate construction that is slightly thinner than the rigid foam boards, so it fits into the mirror gap a bit better while still offering decent IR rejection. It is usually priced around 60 dollars which is fair for the quality. Technical checklist for you:

  • Measure the clearance between your sensor housing and the glass
  • Verify if your Macan has the thermal and noise insulated glass option
  • Roll-up styles are way easier to shove in the footwell when a passenger is there tho
