Ive had Cayennes for a decade but this new E-Hybrid interior feels way more fragile than my last 958. Getting ready for a big road trip to Tahoe next week and need to protect the gloss trim and leather before the kids destroy it. What are the best interior protection accessories for this specific model?
Yeah, Porsche really dropped the ball on the interior durability with the new generation. Moving from the 958 to the E-Hybrid is a shock because of all that piano black plastic. It scratches if you even look at it wrong, and it is way less rugged than the old cabins. Honestly, the only way to save that center console from your kids is a pre-cut kit of Xpel Ultimate Plus Interior Paint Protection Film. I had issues with generic skins before but this stuff actually stays on and hides existing swirls. For the leather, the factory finish is definitely thinner now. I would skip the cheap sprays and go straight for Gtechniq Leather Guard L1 AB to prevent denim transfer and spills. It is not as durable as the old stuff, unfortunately, so you really have to coat it every few months if you are doing mountain trips to Tahoe. It is a bit of a chore compared to the old tanks we used to drive but it is basically the only way to keep the trim from looking trashed within a year.
Regarding what #1 said about "Yeah, Porsche really dropped the ball on the..." I totally agree! The scratch resistance on these new 9Y0 consoles is practically non-existent compared to the older 958. I did a deep dive into the technical specs and the surface hardness is basically a joke. When I got my E-Hybrid, I was quoted nearly a grand for a pro interior PPF install. Crazy, right? I just couldn't justify that cost when I'm already paying Porsche tax on everything else. I decided to take a gamble and go the DIY route to save some cash. I found this R360 Pre-Cut Interior Vinyl Screen Protector kit online for under forty bucks. It took me maybe an hour with a spray bottle and some patience, but it turned out amazing! It covers the center console and the infotainment screen perfectly. For the seats, I skipped the high-end boutique coatings and went with 303 Aerospace Protectant UV Protection which is a total game changer. It provides incredible SPF 40 protection and keeps the leather feeling supple without that greasy shine. Love it! Also, a huge tip for the Tahoe trip: grab a bottle of Chemical Guys InnerClean Interior Quick Detailer and Protectant. I buy it in the gallon size because it's so much cheaper per ounce. It has these anti-static properties that are fantastic for keeping dust off the gloss trim. My kids spilled soda all over the back last month and this stuff cleaned it up in seconds without leaving a single streak. Definitely saved my sanity... and my wallet.
Just found this thread! You dont want to skip molecular protection!
