Which tonneau covers are recommended for the new Ram 1500 REV?

I’m beyond excited to finally have the new Ram 1500 REV in my driveway! It’s an incredible truck, but now I’m looking to get it properly geared up, starting with a solid tonneau cover. Since the REV has that unique frunk and different aero considerations compared to the standard HEMI models, I’m a bit unsure which covers fit best or if there are specific models designed to maintain the truck's range efficiency.

I’m looking for something that offers a mix of security and weather resistance. I’ve been leaning towards a hard folding cover like a BAKFlip, but I’m also curious if a retractable option might be better for accessing the bed. My main concerns are ensuring it doesn't interfere with the charging port access or the aerodynamics that Ram worked so hard on. Also, does anyone know if the bed dimensions and mounting points on the REV are identical to the current 5th Gen gas Rams, or are there slight tweaks I should be aware of before ordering?

For those who have already taken delivery or have been researching accessories, which specific tonneau covers would you recommend for the Ram 1500 REV to keep the gear dry without killing the battery range?

sooo honestly i was kinda disappointed with my first setup cuz the 5th gen gas mounts aren't a perfect 1:1 match for the REV's aero trim. basically, the bed dimensions are the same but the plastic rail caps are slightly different to reduce drag. i had issues with the BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Truck Bed Tonneau Cover fitting perfectly without some minor shimming, which was annoying. honestly, the REV is all about range, and if the cover doesnt sit flush, you lose those aero gains. i'd suggest the RetraxPRO XR Retractable Truck Bed Cover instead. it's super secure and the low-profile design is better for range efficiency, plus it wont block that rear camera view when open. just be careful and maybe get a pro install to ensure it doesnt mess with the charging port seals!!

Story time: I went through this last year when I was trying to save a few bucks on my build. Honestly, I've tried many different setups over the years, and I learned the hard way that "almost fits" usually means a leak or a whistle at highway speeds. I actually tried to port over a cover from a 2022 gas model to an early REV demo unit and it was a total headache cuz of those aero rail caps.

Sooo, if youre looking at cost-effectiveness, I'd skip the expensive retractable ones. In my experience, the Gator ETX Soft Tri-Fold Truck Bed Tonneau Cover is a killer budget option if you want to keep costs under $300 while you wait for REV-specific hardware to hit the market. It’s light, so it wont tank your range, and it’s super easy to take off if you need the full bed.

Another one I looked at for value was the Tyger Auto T3 Soft Tri-Fold Truck Bed Tonneau Cover. Basically, these soft folds are way cheaper than the $1k+ hard covers and they dont mess with the charging port access at all since they sit on top of the rails. I mean, the hard folders are nice for security, but for pure range efficiency and keeping your wallet happy, a low-profile soft cover is highkey the move. Just make sure the clamps clear those new plastic trims... I had to shim mine with some rubber strips lol. gl! 👍

yo, so i've been geekin out on the REV specs lately. honestly, since aero is EVERYTHING for your range, i'd skip the bulky stuff. i'd look into the TruXedo Lo Pro Soft Roll-up Truck Bed Tonneau Cover because it sits super flush to the rails, which helps with that drag coefficient. if you want security though, the RetraxPRO XR Retractable Truck Bed Cover is heavy but the T-slot rails are clutch for adding aero-friendly racks later. dimensions are basically 5th gen, but those rail caps are definitely unique for the REV's airflow, so just double check the mounting hardware clearance!!

Honestly, most of the focus on the REV is about aero, but weight is the silent range killer. Adding a heavy aluminum setup to the bed matters when youre trying to max out your battery efficiency. Based on my research and some market comparisons, here are a few options that actually fit the REV specific rail profile without being total overkill:

  • UnderCover Ultra Flex
  • This is a solid mid-range pick. Its made of composite materials rather than heavy aluminum, so it saves weight while still offering a hard-shell security level. It sits very low, which is key for keeping that laminar flow across the bed.
  • DiamondBack SE
  • If security is your top priority, this is the industry leader. Its a bit heavier, but the perimeter weather stripping is much better than the rail-based seals on most folders. It creates a very tight seal that keeps the drag low by preventing air from getting under the cover.
  • Gator FX3 Hard Folding Tonneau Cover
  • I like this one because it uses FRP (fiberglass reinforced polymer) panels. They dont dent like aluminum and they handle thermal expansion better, which is important for maintaining a tight fit on those REV rail caps over time. Industry standards for the 5th gen bed are close, but the REV rail caps are shaped differently to reduce the wake behind the cab. Stick with covers that have adjustable mounting brackets so you can get that flush fit. If it sits even slightly high, youre basically driving with a parachute at 75 mph. Id definitely double check the specific mounting hardware for the REV before pulling the trigger.

Honestly, it drives me crazy how much we have to deal with this nonsense just to get a basic accessory for a truck this expensive. I have been doing my own installs since the mid-90s and the shift in quality is just depressing. You spend all this money on a REV and then the aftermarket companies treat you like an absolute afterthought. Its such a scam how things have changed lately:

  • The custom fit claims are almost always a lie now
  • Materials feel thinner and cheaper every single year
  • Good luck finding hardware that isnt made of butter-soft metal I remember when buying a cover meant it actually sealed the first time without me needing a heat gun and three tubes of silicone just to stop a leak. Its like they expect us to just accept mediocre engineering while they jack up the prices for EV-specific branding that usually doesnt even mean anything. You try to do it yourself to save some dignity, but you end up fighting the poor manufacturing the whole way.

Yep been there done that. Can confirm everything said above is spot on.
